strange enough, both happened on the same night, last friday, 23rd.
police where of not much help
Have heard it happened, though hasn't happened to me personally, have left my purse many times in car in full view. Forgot my purse once in mall and was called next day to collect it by the salesman.
I lived in Qatar for 27 years and never heard of these type of thiefts beore as we are living in one of the safest countries in the world. You can know that by seeing the people parking thier cars while leaving the engine on and the doors open and go inside a shop to buy something! but good things never last! I used to leave my brand new 4s iphone on the duck inside the car and big amounts of money but after I read ur stories I will never do that again!
Thieves on prowl in malls
Visitors to the country’s popular shopping destinations should be vigilant and beware of thieves. Several cases of theft have been reported in city’s malls recently.
An Arab woman yesterday lost her handbag containing cash, mobile phone, credit cards, Qatari ID card, and three passports among other things from her baby cart which also carried her two young children.
A source said the lady could notice her bag missing only when she approached the cash counter for making the payment for her purchases. The bag contained about QR700 in cash.
Her husband said when he called her on her mobile from his office, someone else answered but then the phone was switched off instantaneously.
Later, he took up the matter with the security at the mall and on their instructions filed a complaint with the Al Saad
police station.
While receiving the complaint, the police made an appeal to the complainant to be more cautious while shopping at crowded places. The police also promised to look into the matter seriously.
The other day, a Western expatriate woman who shopped at a leading hypermarket in the city ended up losing a trolley full of goods costing more than a
thousand riyals.
According to eyewitnesses, the lady found her trolley missing when she came out of a retail outlet inside the shopping
complex.
“After completing her purchase and paying for it at the hypermarket’s cash counter, this customer parked her trolley in front of another shop in the mall and went inside for purchasing something. Moments later, the lady had a big shock awaiting her as she found not only the goods missing from her trolley but the entire trolley itself has vanished from the place,” the source said.
When contacted, an employee at the mall’s management office denied any knowledge of the
incident.
I used to think that Doha was a safe place. Not after someone ran away with my road bike last week.
I am a most forgetfull person. Somant times kept my windows open and went for shoping ( SAFAI MALL, FFC, LULU).
one time i left my mobile phone even with window opened.
Thanks God .. I did not loose any thing. No body picked any
thing left in the car.
May be my good luck and no much thieves in those areas.
Don't leave anything valuable in the car. Or at least hide it properly.
inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi rajioon.
Breaking the side glass at caravan parking in the night...... un believable. the most busy parking areas in the night.
This type of thefts were reported earlier. I would like to suggest all QLers to inform all their friends and relatives not to leave any valuables in their cars.
Leaving valuables in a car and on display - asking for trouble.
