A Team like no other has a date with Destiny!

Many of you may not know that the most storied franchise in North American pro sports, the Montreal Canadiens are playing in their 100th NHL season this year!

The team is off to a great start (winning 4 straight after an overtime shootout loss in their season opener), but doubts really remain in today's big money competitive league (with 30 teams, some in cities that NEVER see snow...California has 3 teams for crying out loud!) wether they can ever recapture their gloried past. No other teams has won the 24 stanley cups Montreal can boast, and the team's home games are ALWAYS sold out (have been for the past 50 or so years) wether the Habs are battling for first place or LAST in the league!!

But for the record books, this is the teams last chance to win a Stanley cup this decade (the 2008-2009 season)...or we will see the first decade in the NHL's history (since the league's inception)without a Montreal Stanley Cup win (their last cup was the 1992-1993 season).

Will they somehow, against all odds, keep the streak going? or are we finally witnessing the end of a glorious era of franchise dominance?

What do you think? One thing is for certain....even if they don't win....to their legions of fans all over the world...hockey means one thing only....MONTREAL CANADIENS FOREVER!

GO HABS GO!

Perfection does not exist. The question therefore, is: what level of imperfection are we willing to settle for?

Brit, the only reason those American teams win is because their teams are chock full of Canadians. :P

HABS is short for les Habitant de Montreal...its the team nickname...and yeah I know what you mean about the long gone "glory days"....sigh!

Well at least there is the olympics to look forward to where we can still kick the americans' butts lol!

Stay safe all.

Used to follow hockey years ago, when the Candiens and Maple Leafs ruled the roost...

When Canadians actually played hockey and the Americans were second best..

Gone are those days..Perhaps, like you say, this year will be different..

By the way, why are they called the HABS ?
