taxis- unsafe for women?

So I've either been waiting for a ride, or trying to hail a cab several times since i've gotten here, and each time, at least one skeezy guy will honk, pull over, and either directly speak with me (once a guy even got out of his car), or just wait for....what? and if I do manage to get a carwa, several times the drivers have made awkward comments....
what is this about? Is it unsafe for women to take cabs alone in Doha?
use a limousine service.
if you are a female, dont even dare walkg on te streets of doha, Men r weird here sumtimes, they behave like they never seeen a female species in their life. so stay off the roads n use the limousine service.There are lot of limousine services available that charge around 15riyals and upwards. n its better to pay tht amount then wait on the side of the road.
i think riding taxi/cab is safe for women, however waiting along the streetside for the taxi is not.

The transportation system is inadequate. Whether cabs are safe or not I honestly don't know, I never tried them. But my question is: why whenever a guy pulls over to give a lady a ride it’s considered harassment? Why not call it an act of chivalry? I myself have passed by many expat ladies standing in the sun, and I was always thinking I should do the right thing and give the lady a ride at least to the nearest area where she can find a mean of transportation, but I never did. Why I never did it because of how the ladies seem to transform an act of courtliness into a scenario where a douche bag is trying to use a lady. Of course it's even more unsafe to ride with a total stranger, but I was just pointing that not every guy who tries to give you a lift is actually hitting on you. Cut them boys some slack.

As living in a conservative country we shall live with it. I was shocked and we made a lot of joke once we saw a guy driving a speed boat towards beach when he saw a lady making sun bath. She was wearing regular swim suit and she was at the beach, I mean not walking on the streets. And the guy was like he has never seen something in his life. He was almost hitting the boat on the sands.
Many people coming here for work and most of them are male away from women. Also culture of Qatar and Islam does not allow women to live like western people (I mean for the clothes and life style). So I believe these are the results of conditions of Qatar.

I use taxis all the time and on my own - during the day and at night, to this day I have had no problems (touch wood) - apart from the turning up late business.
I m hearing such kind of incident for the first time.... is this really happening here..??? or its just a rumour which everyone spreading together....???
Mind you own business theory is much better than poking your nose in to other affairs theory.

what to do. if u need taxi,i been looking for driver i can trust,just to take me to and drop me of and bring me back, once or twice a week,to mall,city centre,villargio. very difficult to find,so i dont go out?or i trust taxi drivers, what to do

I get taxi's everywere as I do not want to drive over here as the driving is terrible. I have never had a problem is the year that I have been here.

That happens because Qatar is filled with douchebags who can't control themselves and are taught from a young age that if a woman isn't wearing a veil she's easy pickens. :P
thanks alexa. it just sort of surprised me that the cab drivers themselves were that bad...as well it's just strange when guys pull over when i'm waiting for my car!

I try not to get into Karwa's alone during the day and I will not do it at night. I've had a guy try and attack me in the back seat and I've heard of others who "pleasure" themselves in the front.
