Takes two to tango!!

China Syndrome
By China Syndrome

I have seen some weird decisions in the courts here, but this one must take the biscuit!!!!

http://www.gulf-times.com/site/topics/article.asp?cu_no=2&item_no=248692...

In a nut shell:

She - Guilty of illicit relations and sentenced to 1 year (suspended)
He - Not Guilty due to lack of evidence!!!! Even though he also admitted driving her from her sponsors home.

Surely if she is guilty, so is he, and if he is found innocent, so should she!!

Any law guru's out there care to explain, apart from repeating the GT story.
Seems a bit dodgy.

Darn.. thought this was a dance thread. Was interested in looking for a tango teacher.

But since I glanced through this...

"...Judges reasoned that there was insufficient evidence to convict the man as the only ‘proof’ of an affair having taken place had come from the housemaid – who was not in court."

- Note: She was not in court to be cross examined to determine the truth of her statement - therefore, little evidential weight to be attached to that statement.

"However, the woman was found guilty on the basis of her own earlier confession"

- That confession was unfortunately cogent enough evidence. She wasn't in court, was not represented, didn't argue that the confession was involuntary and made under duress, etc. She may not be legally represented but could have turned up in court and informed the judges of her real situation. Arguably, she didn't turn up due to fear, etc.. but how to defend her? It's not only her rights considered but the other party's as well. The judges' hands are tied too.

Thank goodness the judge saw through this female's attempt to dishonour this gentleman.

She was probably rying to force him into a marriage.

This is not unusual here. The men often get off easier than the women in these kinds of cases.

the "I smoked but never inhaled" comment...

How can two people have sex but only one be guilty?? Goes against all logic

Grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked, the good fortune to run into the ones I do,and the eyesight to tell the difference.
