Swine Flu

I dont know why people are not taking the swine flue seriously . If people knew that it happened in 1918 in that year it was called the spanish flu which is exactly the same . Swine FLU is also H1n1

The 1918 flu pandemic (commonly referred to as the Spanish flu) was an influenza pandemic that spread to nearly every part of the world. It was caused by an unusually virulent and deadly influenza A virus strain of subtype H1N1. Historical and epidemiological data are inadequate to identify the geographic origin of the virus.[1] Most of its victims were healthy young adults, in contrast to most influenza outbreaks which predominantly affect juvenile, elderly, or otherwise weakened patients. The flu pandemic has also been implicated in the sudden outbreak of encephalitis lethargica in the 1920s.[2]

The pandemic lasted from March 1918 to June 1920 ,[3] spreading even to the Arctic and remote Pacific islands. It is estimated that anywhere from 50 to 100 million people were killed worldwide.[4][5] [6][7][8] An estimated 500 million people, one third of the world's population (approximately 1.6 billion at the time), became infected.[5]

i hope people would take it seriously coz when you read about the spanish flu you will be shocked to know how many people were killed by it

killed 25% to 33% of europe population.

direct consequences? the same amount of wealth was to be divided between less people! the survivor grew richer.

indirect consequences, it lead europeans to question religion as a whole, and unltimately along many other things (Nuremberg typing press mainly) led to the enlightement era.

there where no more natives to work the land or cotton fields. black slaves from africa were bought. the main difference between english colony and spanish ones, is that in english colony slaves lived and multiplied, while in spanish colonies they died, and more and more were bought to die, increasing costs, favoring englishs.

We know people who have been diagnosed with H1N1. Sad, but true. May Allah heal them and protect all from what is more to come.

jackmohan, very very few in fact were shot.

the jesuites and christian crusaders back then, used to trade furs with... infected hospital bed sheets, to further spread diseases. the traders were no other than priests or christian missionaries.

back than, microbes were unknown, but contamination well known although not understood.

We probably should put the risks of dying from swine flu into perspective. As drsam says, unless it mutates into something else, we have a higher chance of dying in a traffic accident here in Doha. What moderately concerns me is that come fall and winter in the northern climes there may be a pandemic that greatly affects business and economics.

Yes we should be more serious about the deaths due to hunger but it doesn't mean that we can conviniently forget Swine Flu as it is independant of that. Isn't it? lol

of 80 millions native "indians" when colombus discovered the americas, only 10 millions were alive after 70 years!

the europeans' deseases new to indians immune systems, claimed as much as 70 millions. that's natural selection and survival of the fittest 10 millions immune system able to coop with the new viruses/bacteriae.

the indian stroke back though, introducing syphilis to europe!

of the 500 millions infected 100 died or 20%

that's alarming

in swine flu case, my last update (2 weeks ago) it was 80.000 infected and 700 deaths. less than 1%

that's a little more than what normal flus claim yearly worldwide. swine flu is still, a flu.

2 factors are potentialy alarming:

1- killing healthy 20-30 aged

2- it's new, and it may mutate into a new more fatal form

if it doesn't mutate, it's normal flu.

now chinese plague commencing is another thing, also it too is not a serious threat.
