being happy is important..

Yet, I am curious, what is the biggest festival in Kerala??...is it Onam or anything else?

In Mumbai for example Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated somewhat bigger than Diwali.

In Bihar and parts of UP, a festival called "Chhath Pooja" is more popular and celebrated more than Diwali perhaps.

I am sure regional/linguistical diversity and local custom prevail even in festivals!

yeah, your friends are right.....Diwali is not given much importance in Kerala.and it's not the start of a new year for Keralites either.but people do still celebrate it alongwith everybody else.....coz afterall,it's an excuse to be happy and a celebration of any kind is always welcome at any time :-)

Keep smiling!

A very happy Deepavali and Prosperous new year ahead.

Thanks for sharing sweets...Now I am missing some homemade sweets and namkeen.

The sight of mom making "Karanji" a week before Diwali was enough for us to skip tution classes and be at home during those nostalgic school days.

Btw..a few of my friends from Kerala say that Diwali is not that big a festival over there-- is this true?

In north India usually holiday is minimum 3 days to celebrate the occasion.
