Swedish male train drivers wear skirts to work

Commuters on a train line in northern Stockholm were met with an unusual sight this week: male train drivers and conductors wearing skirts to work.

Train driver Martin Akersten says he and more than a dozen others have started wearing skirts in the summer

The 30-year-old Akersten said Sunday the response from customers has been only positive.

Arriva, the company that runs the train line, hasn't stopped the drivers. Arriva spokesman Tomas Hedenius says the company wants its staff to look "nice and proper," but can't stop men from wearing "women's clothes" if that's what they want because it would be discrimination.

As long as the whole story is related with PROTEST, i don't think there is any problem wearing skirt by men...

But i just hope that the protest should not go for longer period..:D

Strange situations call for innovative solutions and fashion statements. Perhaps they could try out the skirts and the colourful loongis during the summer months out here and this may help make the heat more bearable if not for the ones who are wearing them then atleast for the onlookers and admirers

i agree with every post mimi made in this thread..especially where she points out the hidden part of the story..if it was intentionally omitted and hidden, well the OP needs to evaluate just how pathetic they are..just hate when people sensationalize things or speak absolute drivel without having a clue..sorry for the rant but just got off another thread where some loser replied to a red light violation query that there's a new rule and the violator would have to pay 9000 now..there is no such rule and this guy is just out there worrying people who are already stressed out enough..god!..completely ticked me off that guy..having a bad day with ql so just going to give it a rest i guess

In most Western countries train drivers & conductors are allowed to wear shorts as part of their uniform in the summers flor. And yes, it would be public transport.

MK... what you say is not true. You can see men wearing lungis to work in TN. They are not the printed types but plain and good quality ones. Even the FM wears it to work.

Miss mimi No Indian wears lungi for office only inside bedroom but scottish men are wearing them for office and schools

Flor, it was for all of the train staff. That's why the drivers and conductors are wearing skirts.

I don't see how simply wearing a skirt means that a man has taken on womanly traits. The Scottish are some pretty manly men and they've been wearing kilts for centuries. Indian men wear lungi's, those are skirts.

I just ordered two skirts in case

I am afraid after two months the men skirts will be expensive,, so now i will get two ,,, :O)

I suppose they would Rizks if they were told they weren't allowed to wear underwear, but the female conductors could.

wat next ?

Mens wearing bra and panties for protest ? :(

Ridiculous.

It's a loophole in their corporate rules Rizks. I'm sure the guidelines state that black pants, skirts, white shirts, etc are deemed an acceptable part of the uniform, but didn't specify gender. So the men are wearing the skirts as a protest.

By Rizks• 10 Jun 2013 08:51

but the above conductor is a Male ! :(

Because the female conductors wear skirts, it's a part of their uniform, which means it's on the approved uniform list.

By Rizks• 10 Jun 2013 08:49

if they had ban shorts, then why skirts - isnt it a girly thing to wear ? :(

they would have wore banana leaves or mini-undergarments to work ?

By Miss Mimi• 10 Jun 2013 08:36
Miss Mimi

Perhaps you should put the whole story? They're wearing skirts because the company has banned them from wearing shorts in the summer. It's a protest, not a fashion statement.
