A surprising book on Arab tourism

Uranus1
By Uranus1

I came across an interview with the author of a book on gay tourism the Middle East--the title says 'Muslim World' but he's talking about North Africa and the Middle East. I was surprised:

1. That he described people as so accepting of his homosexuality
2. He openly encourages other gays to travel in his footsteps

His comments about how the tactile male culture allowed him more room to be public about his homosexuality than in the West was also enlightening.

I always thought of the places he discusses as being extremely anti-gay and had discouraged gay Westerners from visiting. I guess I was wrong.

This is the book blurb and an interview with the author on a general travel web magazine:

I think we all agree that HCAS does not know much about anything--regardless of our races, religions or nationalities.

But I would just add that I don't see it as a Middle Eastern thing either. We can trace the oldest written accounts of sodomy to the region but that is because the oldest civilisations are in this region. Had the oldest accounts of civilisation been in NYC, then we could say it started there :)

HCAS, you obviously missed out on school altogether if you don't know basic geography and history, mate ;)

This proves you really dont know anything.

Wake up child and learn something properly and then come to the class.

So actually the religious references don't tell that it is a western evil...Actually it started in the middle east.

that is why i am with you in this point ex.ex.ex pat

By one_shot• 18 Feb 2011 21:10
one_shot

if there is anybody said it is western then he is wrong ex.ex., the story which is mention about gays in quran is about Loat's people (a prophet in the old days) even before Abraham or Sulaiman) and his people started to became gays, they were in the middle east,in palestine.

so he Ordered LOUT and the few good people to come out from the village because the decision has been made "after a lot of preaching by Loat and tutoring him as a replay of what he was trying to do" .

the location is in the dead see....and the stories says that the Angel of king of Angels raised the village and flipped it and made it in the lowest part of the ground.

By ex.ex.expat• 18 Feb 2011 20:29
ex.ex.expat

I simply meant that the stories from the Bible and Koran refer to sodomy in the story of Lot, so it can't be a "Western" thing. Lot would predate the Ancient Greeks.

But then you can pretend that QL means a lot to you and give it up, so then when you start the relationship and ever argue can say 'I changed for you, i EVEN gave up Qatar Living to be with you'.

Unless she is a b*tch and says she accepts you regardless of posting here :-p

By one_shot• 18 Feb 2011 19:30

i didn't read in any comment that Hcas was a muslim or he refered to it.

on the other hand a lut(lot) of people in the world christians or atheists or..or...don't accept gays.

it is a matter of free opinion.

By ex.ex.expat• 18 Feb 2011 18:00

exactly uranus.

i was pleasantly surprised by how accepting people were to this guy. gives a different take on the whole thing i guess. maybe people are just more accepting of differences in person than on these sorts of forums. its good ammunition against people in the West who bash places like Qatar by calling Arabs anti-gay and how they dont deserve the world cup.

Can you understand my english or you are pretending not to.

I have asked you, Do you prefer to marry a woman or a man (who is not a gay).

By volleygirl5• 18 Feb 2011 01:08

fair enough one_shot. i wasnt accusin you of bein gay. nothin wrong with your opinion as far as i can tell. ur not the one here overcompensating.

By chance i have this feeling, you know a lot about gays than uranus. Can you sense who is a gay or not

By volleygirl5• 18 Feb 2011 01:05
volleygirl5

why so interested in everyones sexual orientation HCAS? this isnt a dating site. maybe you need to put an ad in the classifieds. besides i wouldnt marry a gay man as he is already taken.

the original post is all about how surprise someone was to find a book about the this. what does that have to do your personal life???

By one_shot• 18 Feb 2011 01:05

i didn't ask anybody if he is gay or not.

i just don't accept them, and it is my free opinion and it won't affect anybody.

and i don't bash them,"my opinion" is that they bash themselves.

We have in the company a gay and he is alone with age of 50 no kids and nothing.

so i don't like to bash them i feel sorry for them.

By volleygirl5• 18 Feb 2011 01:00
volleygirl5

one_shot,

I think it is gayness if you cruise threads asking people if they are gay and then going WAY out of your way to say you are gay. not accepting gays or not accepting homosexuality is different from goin round and spendin so much time bashin gays. Its all about overcompensating.

By anonymous• 18 Feb 2011 01:00

Do you prefer marrying to a female or do you prefer marrying to a male.

Please answer only to my question and be serious with your answer

By volleygirl5• 18 Feb 2011 00:56

not sure what youre askin HCAS but sounds like you are cruisin this thread for a date!

yer right Uranus. nothing to be afraid of if your not interested cause there is no being tempted by somethin you dont want.

By Uranus1• 18 Feb 2011 00:51

Why are you so interested in my sexuality HCAS?

I don't have problem with gays, so I am not really offended by you calling me that. But studies show that people who are most vocal against gays are usually suppressing their own homosexuality . . .

What is your comment on this forum

By anonymous• 18 Feb 2011 00:44

forget about your suspect thing. Iam suspecting now that you are a gay. That is why you have brought this topic in the forum.

Who is your gay partner.

But i really like this forum of yours in one way. It really shows your deep interest for gays.

By volleygirl5• 18 Feb 2011 00:40
volleygirl5

good post to uranus. i agree this is good PR in the end for the region . . . makes it seem less homophobic. probably good for WC 2022 tourism too. lots of liberals bashing Arab World for being so conservative and this guy gives a broader view.

people who bash gays so hard are just worried about their own sexuality . . . just desperate to prove theyre somethin theyre not ;-)

By Uranus1• 18 Feb 2011 00:34

Babylon, Syria, and Egypt predate ancient Greece, as do your East Asian examples. Sounds like you're arguing against yourself.

Either way, the book certainly changed my narrow opinion of this region and I suspect it will change the views of other people around the world too.

Homosexuality started its earliest occurence from ANCIENT GREECE (WESTERN COUNTRY).

Homosexuality is most prominent in Greek architecture, such as the statues of nude individuals, particularly of men (as the male form was seen as magnificent).

Homosexuality was not restricted only to the western section of the world however, as it was also dominant in Ancient Japan and China, where male relations were given spiritual value and given the utmost respect. Homo-erotic art and poetry had much value in ancient times.

HCAS--are you saying that homosexuality was invented by the West? There is plenty of evidence if it existing in ancient Egypt, Babylon, Syria, and such--long before the West even existed as a culture.

i know HIV originated from AFRICA. Iam only giving an example, that western disease is like HIV VIRUS. Anything stupid they do, it spreads quickly and over all the world.

HIV originated in Africa and I hope you are being sarcastic with your comments. Arabs are famous for chowing down on the gentleman sausage.

Does it say anywhere in the book Welcome to Bahrain and dont mind us shooting our own people or Welcome to Egypt and Mubarak trying to hold on to power having fiddled with the constitution to safeguard him and his seat or we are in the middle of a revolution in places like Libya, syria, jordan, yemen and the list goes on

By anonymous• 17 Feb 2011 22:58
anonymous

i find this guy in the video or the author fake. gay thing is purely a western disease. it has nothing to do with middle east or africa.

swine flu was started from the western, so it is a western disease. bird flu was started from the western, so it is a western disease. homosexuality was started from the western, so it is a western disease.

western disease is like HIV virus. it really spreads quiet fast. we need to find out solution on how this disease can be controlled.
