The other day I heard this statement : There is no future for the white man in south Africa .
Then this question was asked : What kind of future does that leave South Africa with?
I had to get my info straight from the horse’s mouth this time:)
I've spoken to one of my friend's father who has emigrated to South Africa in 1960s and according to him there were at least 10 thousands Czech/Slovak families in South Africa as a result of two waves of immigration in 1950s and after Prague’s spring.
Not everyone agree with the new government, i honestly think what this government is doing it not fair or right for that matter. Just the mere fact that they made this BEE law and employ incompetent people and give them millions. I believe everyone deserves a fair chance and the best man should get the job, whether black or white. And worse a black person like me, everywhere i go ..people think im a thief or something. I just wished people shouldnt have this metality that all blacks are corrupt or thieves..i certainly dont back what the president said, hence i havent voted
that you mention people immigrating to SA, hamada, cause generally South Africa doesn't accept immigrants that easily - It has enough of a jobless situation not to take in immigrants - hence the problem with our borders linked to Zimbabwe... and the illegal immigrant nigerian population.
Yes, I will say there are many young South Africans who still wish for the old south african, I have a saffer friend here, who proudly displays the "old vier kleur" (old SA flag) Frankly, I cannot blame them, when they have lived and fought for SA and then cannot even find a job because if you aren't black - don't bother...
I left SA for reasons other than work or politics - my family have business in SA that I can go back too if I wanted, but I choose to stay here, because its one more job they can give to another Saffer who really needs it. I also don't have any political interest to what happens, since I have a live and let live attitude... If you give someone enough rope, they will hang themselves eventually, and the way the SA government is behaving at the moment, it will come sooner or later, and those that have left will probably return to help rebuild what is left...
Czechs, Slovaks and others from the former Eastern bloc used to escape communism and settle in countries like South Africa, Canada…etc
I didn't lay a judgment on the entire "Whites" South Africans, I've clearly referred to *some* of my age group which I've met abroad and even here in Qatar, because we were studying, working and hanging out together in a multicultural environment, I just didn't expect to hear such racial slurs, especially from the young generations or to see the old South African flag on their premises.
Personally, I would like to see the Blacks renouncing violence and the White returning back to help rebuilding South Africa to become a successful role model for the entire African continent.
On a side note, South Africa is the most beautiful country in the world for me,incredible, heaven on Earth ! so I can’t imagine anyone unwilling to live there if we eliminate the security issue of course.
Firstly, South African/Czech mix? which means these people have been out of SA for many many years, so their kids haven't grown up in SA and were not there for the change of leadership - and are just going on what their families say? - going to be long winded here, but to be fair - you cannot base Saffers on people you met in Prague:
If you know these people - they must be in what? 20-30yr age bracket? which means their parents had to have left SA to marry a Czech what? 25 - 30 years ago - I am not aware of a large Czech population in SA - They have never grown up in the "new" SA - the people that left before the "new" SA would have left during the apartheid regime, so haven't known about the changes, and stayed in that mind set - therefor their kids haven't grown up knowing anything different - only why their parent/s won't go back to SA.
Secondly, Interestingly enough, I had foreign friends visit SA and came back to ask me - "how do yo u live with them?" I was like, "live with who?"
There answer - "those dirty black people" - this from the same people who were anti-apartheid - and who see me as the least racist person they know - even coming from SA.
I have met many South Africans in Prague, mostly were half caste (Czech father or mother) and most of them have shared one major issue if they ever decide to go back which is security.
Also I’ve noticed an ugly attitude by *some* of them towards blacks “kafir” which I found really disgusting and intolerable, because typically you would expect the younger generations would adopt and move on , but apparently it wasn’t just their old folks who had that ugly attitude
*saffer waving at you* what, my post didn't count?
Sorry, Brit - is Deal_4_wheel another ID you have? Do you know what he meant by his statement?
'future is in the hands of white ones at the moment, the ball in in their court!! either to play sensibly or hit hard:b'
I could take it in a couple of different ways:
1. D4W still thinks that SA is under apartheid regime
2. Whites must leave the country and let the blacks carry on
3. Whites must take up tennis...
I want to know what he means, before i comment...
I am not patriotic... never have been... it doesnt matter where i live, I will be happy wherever that is - however SA is still my country, so will comment once there is something worthwhile commenting on.
I remember reading a NYT article last year (I'll try and find it) where it highlighted the plight of the "Poor Whites".
South Africa is in a transition period. Positive discrimination and the majority feeling that they are "entitled" to jobs has created problems. This is to be expected.
The government needs to do more to address this. I have worked with many skilled South Africans. They left because of high crime rates, rather than lack of oportunities. However, i would be interested to hear from South Africans themselves..
brit, the comment was made in the context of white people leaving SA because they can't find work, not because they are not educated or there isn't any work for them. It was made in the context that white people are racially discriminated against.
The other statement was made in the context of SA going down the drain...it may be the next Zimbabwe.
'Only black' future does mean a bleak future! Because the whites in RSA aren't going to vanish even if someone wishes them to.
A few days ago, someone in QL recommended me a movie called 'amandla-A revolution in 4 part harmony'.
I liked the movie very much. It showed how the blacks collectively fought against the apartheid, and how they sacrificed everything to join the anti-apartheid movement. It seemed that they took pride in their peaceful struggle!
But if they again bring the discrimination back, albeit in the reverse fashion what good does it do? All the sacrifice and struggle of their leaders will go invain!
So any future without blacks or whites will be bleak!

Well, the statements I mentioned came from South Africans.
There were a few more, but those I can't mention here.
I remember reading a NYT article last year (I'll try and find it) where it highlighted the plight of the "Poor Whites".

It all depends in what context the statement was made. In a way, the past is coming to haunt South Africa.
There are immense problems, but I truly believe that the country will come through this stronger and better.
Unfortunately everything that was endured together and fought against during apartheid, has now gone by the way side...
The power struggle that now reigns in SA between the old apartheid freedom fighters and their own people is going to be the downfall of SA...
Please can you explain this statement?
future is in the hands of white ones at the moment, the ball in in their court!! either to play sensibly or hit hard:b
D4H it would be far more interesting, had there been a few more colors like purple, green, cyan & blue and a few spotted or striped ones too!
future is in the hands of white ones at the moment, the ball in in their court!! either to play sensibly or hit hard:b

It is better a bleak future than to leave under apartheid. "Freedom is better than riches
Ask Nelson "Madibba" Mandera.
It is better a bleak future to leave under apartheid. "Freedom is better than riches"
Has it ever left? And does black future mean bleak future? And if so, why?
Is the apartheid coming back?
ah....you edited...;)
Bleak future.
