Some advice about cell phones
I read the other posts on here, but am needing just a little more info on cell phones. First I have to get a cell phone that is GSM, mine isn't. Do I keep my carrier (T-mobile) active while in Qatar, or am I going to use a service provider out there? Sorry I am technologically challenged. Also, once I get this I believe I need to purchase the Qtel SIM. I have been told that once I do this, I can get receive phone calls from the US without charge. Is this true? Sorry this is so vague, but I am getting bits and pieces of info, but haven't gotten anything concrete.
for the clarification! Cheers.
If your service provider in the US is not GSM (CDMA?) then you won't be able to use your phone (number) here. If you want to keep it active you need to switch to a GSM provider in the US and enable roaming. Be warned, though, roaming charges are expensive.
Once here your only option (for a few more months at least) is the local service provider Q-Tel. You can either get a prepaid SIM or a postpaid one (monthly billing).
You only pay for the phone calls you make. You don't pay for incoming calls.
Good luck.
