Smoking in public place??

Hello Mates,

Just wondering, did you notice some people smoking in public places or at least in the recreational areas?

I was jogging in corniche and took a break for few mins. It was really churning up when a lady sitting next me was smoking and few days ago me and my friend were having a coffee in Landmark – Starbucks. It was difficult to sit there cuz one Qatari guy was smoking. He was not smoking inside Starbucks but they have few chairs along side the windows in the corridor.

I am not against smoking as its a personal choice and I was also once addicted but at least it should be banned legally in the public places where people come to relax , to be healthy and breath some fresh air.

What you mates think ? Is there any place where we can complain and make a formal request?

Will be looking forward.

Regards,

LLR.

Smoking in public places is illegal and hence should not be encouraged..period!

But yes I've seen it happening every now and then, mostly in the coffee shops at the malls. Thankfully though some staffers immediately put a stop to it, asking the offenders to stop or leave.

At the Corniche, a cigarette smoke bothered you more than the exhaust from all the cars? Really?

I support no smoking in enclosed spaces but good luck trying to enforce no smoking in open areas.

Where I go to enjoy the angel juice is an enclosed public space but the hotels allow the drunk, the rude and those that have left their religion to smoke freely. This is illegal but we all know laws in Qatar are just recommendations.

You want to breathe clean air? Then you will have to leave Qatar. You are running at the Corniche? With all the cars fumes there you are doing more bad than good to your health.

I'd say having somebody smoking outdoors is the least of your problems.

The law (20 of 2002) states "a fine of 200-500 QR will be imposed on those who smoke, or allowed others to smoke in the prohibited areas"

Link to that law (arabic only)

Smoking on the Corniche is ok but smoking inside is and should be banned. They all smoke inside the bars when I am enjoying my 10 pints of beer even though it is illegal under Qatar law!

The problem isn't the laws, it's the enforcement of them.

better to avoid them than to complain, there is lots to do before they entertain you, consider also that you must take photos as your bases & not easy to get that unless the subject is blind.

in Qatar to smoke indoors.

So whose right takes precedence? The right to smoke over the right to 'clean' air?

Smoking on the Corniche......Pleeeaaaseee
