Smoking in office

By consciouseffort

My boss smokes in the office & recently we had new staff & he in a way encouraged them too to smoke in office otherwise they would have done that out of office. He knows very well that I am allergic to smoke & get asthma attacks but he doesnt show any courtesy. What shall I do in this case. I have already started looking for another job hahahhaha

if they continue to smoke in the office, then just get up and walk out till the time they are smoking do it once or twice and they should get the hint. Secondly its against the law to be smoking in offices or so i've heard, but what can u do if your boss is a moron himself...send him a link to this thread ;)

Hmmmn...that was a joke btw I wasnt serious Samael :) Anyway, I think, I should write an email to whole staff mentioning my sickness & requesting them to show concern over my problem & quit smoking in office :) Lets see how does this work. In this way, it wont hurt anyone's ego & there is 90% chance that my problem would get resolved :) If there is any other suggestion from anyone pls let me know :)

You could get a pretty hefty fine for setting off a fire alarm falsely...

Stick with the twitching, it's cheaper

Fire alarm sounds like a good option

keep an Alka-Seltzer in yer pocket, when he starts chew on it, fall to the ground and start twitching uncontrollably. The foaming out of the mouth from the Alka-Seltzer i just think adds a nice touch.

Works if someone is asking you to take the trash out too!

same situation in my office. same room with my boss. smokes too much. i dont usually mind smokers but when they smoke too much and it doesnt get out...it is really irritating. sometimes i cover my nose but still they dont get it!

and if i get a lung cancer because of this, for sure they will just send me home :(

I smoke and I feel for you, why can't your boss go outside??? I think it is totally disrepectful. Even in the open air, if someone sits beside me I will ask if they mind, but more often than not I take the initiative to move a certain distance away from them so that I don't offend them.

I think it's a disgusting thing to smoke in the office, but (like in many other area) there are not really strict laws against smoking. Maybe later, but you don't want to wait till that time. In my office people are smoking as well, but fortunately they are far enough from me, so I don't feel at all. Maybe it's a good idea to quit.

It's true that had working hadn't killed anyone yet, but why to take risk?

and he is at the same room with you??

isn't in qatar prohibited to smoke inside??

well.. my boss smokes as well.. but first, he is in his own room, and i am in my own.. second, when we have a meeting, he always asks for my permission...I don't smoke, but i don't have any problem with smokers, so we are fine.. but in your case i think you have to check your rights...

One of my previous Bosses used to smoke in the little port-a-cabin office that used to accommodate us both. When he smoked, I would leave the office - he noticed then that I was never there for work to be done. So he started to stand by the door during his smoke snacks :D

Good luck.

I actually was very sick for almost 5 days just because of their smoking & but the doctor wasnt giving me more than a day & she dint even write the reason whereas I was requesting her to mention this so that I can get this stopped in the office. As far as I know this is prohibited in public places & offices.
