Smart question need your answer

“In order to properly understand the behaviour of the lower classes one needs to be a ruler, and in order to properly understand the behaviour of rulers one needs to be a member of the lower classes, similarly as those who paint landscapes set up their easels down in the valley in order to portray the nature of the mountains and the peaks, and climb up into the mountains in order to draw the valleys.” Machiavelli.

I’m sure those of you who are intellectual, intelligent and educated would participate in this debate. Those of you who are monotonous and will mock this, don’t add a comment and waste the space on this forum we will know who you are!

I would like to ask a question and you choose ONLY ONE answer and give your explanation as to why you thing your answer is the right choice.

Question:

If you had the choice to be a leader, would you want to be LOVED leader or would you want to be FEARED leader?

as the saying goes, whether you are loved or feared, what matters is the end result. I'll follow-up Azi's comment, Aquino was a "loved" leader and Marcos a "feared" one, what does history now tell us?, who is better and comparing accomplishments and the chaos our country now is in?

Again, it is in each individual's view how he will rate the leader, IT SHOULD BE A BALANCE OF BOTH.

Talk to my wife, she is the nuclear power plant that inspires me, drives me from zero to monster in 3.5 seconds.

I certainly hope this will suffice. Perhaps you could see some reason in this, use it as a tool to be the leader you want to be. But please, do not settle for things that are less, if you are capable of so much better.

I commend you for your post

effective communication, confidence, and an epic credibility:)

When surrounded by a multitude of unique personalities. Beleive me, "you will be tested." The led only follows people who are clearly focused, decisive, making solid decisions while influencing people to act and feel good about making the change "With You." You "WILL" own the setting. Iron "WILL" sharpen Iron.

Most of the time, people tend to follow the "rock" instead of the cute little cuddly loving teddy bear--soooo cute, NOT!!!. Most often, nobody would want to follow a perokeet love bird; the led requires a "leader". We test the validity of important matters by considering the source.

Humor makes good entertainment but could potentially discount ones credibility. Most often, nobody would want to follow a clown.

As a leader, you would want to state opinions convincingly and forcefully so that you can influence others if that happens to be your goal--no time for smarty pants subordinates that may perhaps be twice your age. If someone needs a gut check, a leader would not hesitate.

At the end, you would have mutual respect, and to some, that is as precious as love between you and your subordinates.

into leadership and then you will probably not know the difference between love and fear.

Machiavelli is ok but too much of a cliche these days. I prefer Homer. (Simpson that is)

It is better to be both feared and loved, proper balance of which could make a good leader. Obedience founded on love begets contempt and abuse, but obedience built on fear lasts. So if it's virtually impossible to achieve balance it is better to be feared than loved than otherwise.

A peaceful leader you mean! Don’t you think he will be a target to others.

I could cite an example for each... from our own country, Philippines:

Mrs. Corazon C. Aquino (1st lady President)was a loved leader;

Mr. Ferdinand E. Marcos was a feared (some despised him, though) leader.

yes, loved leader, cause it lasts more, fear is a temporary feeling disappears when its sources go.

on the other hand, it should be mutual love and so loved leader shouldn't see his followers as lower class.

...people will not follow you unless they love you....

coming back to the topic

A better leader is one who holds a vision of the future and a vision that appeals to the masses. Love and fear are not polarities

The answer should reflect your personal opinion!

_Niccolo Macchiavelli / "The Prince" he claims it is better to be feared than loved if you can't both.

That doesn't make him right, but he has some very good points.
