Smart parking for smart fee!

Staff Reporter: Motorists who want to avail of the VIP parking facility at the Souq Waqif have to shell out QR100 when authorities start collecting charges, most probably after Eid al-Fitr, Gulf Times has learnt...(read more here http://gulf-times.com/site/topics/article.asp?cu_no=2&item_no=314615&ver...)

Seriously?? where is this 'VIP' parking? for 100 bucks i'd expect to drive up to al bandar and have a sheesha brought to my car.

Quote: "A notice at the souq says the charge “is calculated at the regular at QR1,” causing some confusion amongst the motorists. According to a source, this could mean that every additional hour would be charged at the rate of QR1.
Additionally, if the ticket is lost, the recovery charge is QR75, on top of the regular fee, while a special VIP parking ticket is priced at QR100 per vehicle.

Qr 75 if you lose your ticket? wow cant wait to see what other great ideas they come up with in the near future.

How many of you would use this parking? How many even think this is a smart fee?

2. Free Fast Food Coupon- Worth QR 25

3. Free Shopping Coupon - Worth QR 25

well the regular non-VIP charge of Qr. 3 plus Qr. 1 every additional hour is very nominal. does anyone feel otherwise?...i mean compared to Dubai,i haven't been to a single lot there where it's less than Dhs.10 minimum so comparatively Qr. 3 is very reasonable & the Qr.1 additional even more so,in fact i don't think these prices are going to deter the loiterers who walk around letching @ the women without actually patronizing any of the establishments, except maybe to buy a coke or a bottle of water & using up a parking spot thereby depriving a genuine customer to one of the souq's establishments...realistically,the parking fee ought to be Qr. 5 min. plus Qr.1 or Qr.2 every additional hour, that will keep the riffraff out & finding a parking slot won't be the nightmare that it currently is...

Well thats the funny system they have around here..Lovely buildings but hardly any parking enough to accommodate the large traffic of Doha. Wonder who does the planning for these projects. Most of those towers in West bay, commercial buildings dont have enough parking at all. they use Sheraton's parking or park in the post office parking, i could be wrong but thats what i was told.

This parking fee for the souq is just not worth it when u go to see the prices you pay for a decent meal there are also sky high. What are they trying to do attract people or put them off?

Good Fortune always comes knocking at your door...when you are sh*tting in the toilet!! :)

i have seen that and was wondering what is VIP parking for a 100 riyals, i think they wash the car, fill it up with fuel, and bring it to you inside the Souq exactly at your table .. and yet a 100 riyals is a rip off!!!

I was there on Friday. The guy in the kiosk was very nice and advised "No payment yet".

I notice the charges: QR3 entry, then QR1/hr.

Never saw mention of VIP parking.

The thing that made me laugh though was that as I was leaving, I was in the traffic queue near Fanar signal behind a Land Cruiser. He saw a parking space beside him and simply mounted the pavement and went for it. I'm sure this is the same way he will leave. Some things will never change!
