Sick
I have a terrible cold , coughing, sneezing, running nose, fever and all of the unpleasant things accompanied with it, being new in Qatar, I was directed to go to Hamad hospital. When I first walked in that hospital, I felt like a prisoner in a jail cell waiting for the doctor to make his visit. Still I was keeping an open mind and reminding myself that I shouldn’t judge and just wait my turn. All this stopped when I saw a lady sitting next to me puking her guts out in a trash can and no one seemed to notice her. That’s when I got up and ran for the exist door!
Does
anyone know a good clinic or hospital that actually treats patients like people and not a heard of sheep waiting to be checked out “ no offense”
I know a certain doctor of HMC of a certain nationality whose tongue would never get tired singing praises of Qatar, HMC & his boss. When he joined in, first year he took leave for religious pilgriomage which was extended for certain unavoidable resons. Next year, his wife had an accident & got some mysterious neck injury which could be treated only in his home country. Another big vaccation. Again, the coming year, he himself had a heart attack, which was very difficult to be diagnosed by any modern investigation. But the guy with the 'weak heart' now avoids 'stressful' workload of HMC. Other doctors of his team pray to God that He will call this 'dear' fellow to heavens as quick as possible and this guy goes on with nothing , but praises for Qatar, HMC & his boss..................wise people learn a lesson from him 'how to survive in Qatar?'
thank I'm full of drugs and prain free. take it anyway you want. and to be and yeah dental is expensive everywhere, but isn't there a dentist here or he claims to be, try him he might pull your tooth for free. bahahaha!
a room? i did not get a room. i left after 3 hrs. And they kept calling for weeks to make sure their money is there. When they got it, they called telling me x-rays showed i need root-canal in my other tooth LOL.
Did you get a nice room?
US $7,800 = QR 28,470
I paid QR 6,000 for root-canal here in Doha - One tooth also
Well, first of all i sure hope you feel better...Second, you can't expect smiley faces when you're in ER. Dr's/nurses are always tense and nervous there. It's everywhere my dear. Also, you can't expect people, especially ones who love this country, not get offended when you describe yourself as "prisoner in a jail cell", and use words like "a heard of sheep waiting to be checked out“. I mean c'mon, really? have you not been to hospitals elsewhere in the world? Do you know how much cheaper you pay here compared to other countries? ask around my dear. Unless you're Cuban or Canadian, you'll be suprised of how cheap it is here. For example, I've been to couple of ER's in the US and they suck! Only difference is that people in ER in the US are way less cuz it cost hundreds of dollars overnight. People are afraid of the cost so they don't go to hospitals in the US. I once had pain in my tooth and had root-canal done on it. The cost was $7,800 for one tooth!
you are good in that ;)

one may need to start a forum for QL gossip as well with the kind of personal info thats coming out lately :( and masks being blown apart
a thread to rant and whine about today's morning accident??
damn those typical bad driver..:( and then not accepting his mistake and fighting...!!!!
my dear what you need is to drink lots of lots of water and fruit juices. at night if you have a vicks vaporub, at night put hot water in a bowl or boil water in a container, and disolve a small amount of vicks vaporub and inhale it. if your flu is coupled with fever, try to take panadol 3 times a day. try to use panadol for flu.
you mentioned that you are coughing, i would like to ask if you have a history of asthma? because if you have you need to take an anti-allergy med. try to avoid exposing yourself outside because at this time, the weather is changing. so, every year on these months, flu is rampant. in awhile you will adjust also.
have a complete rest. add more fruits and vegetables in your diet. and try to take 1000mg of Vit. C.
hope this will help you.
~smile always~
Wishing all(sick) QL Ladies a speedy recovery :)
BritEx..yep a Hot Toddy always does the trick.. they even used to give a tea spoon brandy to young infants and still do..:0)
No! Your rant quota for the month is complete.LP: That's what a hot toddy is :O)
Tinky...No you should be ranting about why you have been away from QL lately. Well I hope it was not the FLU that kept you away..
Brit, it's not hot water, it's hand-warm Jack Daniel's!
What happened to the old Hot Water bottle , blanket, socks and Hot Toddy to take care of the flu ?
O Brits Expat now don't you go and put salts in old wounds. For normal colds and flu a few years ago in blighty, would've meant sitting in A&E for at least 4 to 6 hours to be seen. Now they have the new GP centres which take care of non urgent cases. So the end advice for all you people suffering from common colds and flu like symptoms, please do not go to the Hamad A&E department just go to a Pharmacy or a Primary Care Health centre. My advice is. It takes one week to recover from Flu if you take medicine, and it takes 7 days if you don't. So basically what I am saying it takes time to recover from a viral infections. All you need is plenty of rest and fluids..:)
brit is that your hometown?
TB...that is individuals perception... I feel in a hospital like a jail, irrespective.
Try visiting one of the A&E units in Blighty of a weekend. :O)
Al Ahli is a hospital... blimey when I went there to visit a friend I thought it was a 5 star hotel. "Which hospital doesnt feel like a jail cell???"This one HGL ;)
..then go to Al Ahli Hospital, not agreat hospital for its basic purpose (medically) but you get 5star treatment….including a good cafeteria & chocolate outlet :)
Did I mention to anyone that I am a rocket scientist?
Which hospital doesnt feel like a jail cell???
Hamad Accident and Emergency Centre by its name means one should only go for an Emergency not for routine common colds and flu's. For that the first point for me would be a Chemist, or a Primary Health Care Centre.
sob story?
Poor you. Most people's first time at the Hamad can be quite daunting(I know mine was..but I got used to it) but seems like you've stepped in on a really bad day.And feeling as sick as you were I can understand your fear and disgust. I for one prefer the health centers to Hamad Emergency and would only go there when its really an emergency(as in life or death) or the health center's closed.Hope you find a good hospital asap and wish you a speedy recovery!Seems like you've caught the good o'l flu, so Inshallah hope you'll feel better fast. Meanwhile get lots of rest and drink lots of water. All the best!
Did you go to Emergency or walk-in outpatients ?
thank you so much,I went to the pharmacy and starting to notice a slight relieve thanks again:) and vodka you sound really good right about now haha!
I thank you for your comments.I thought the issue was already closed and sealed. Do you wish to start all over again? Just for the fun of it?
seriously ur a schocker and infact ur a doctor so u should be wiser than thatthe girl for god sake was talking about a problem and its true thats the case in hamad hospital, u feel like ur in a jungle when i get sick id rather go to aprivate medical center than queing up in the line for ever at that hospital and its not only my opinion its the same with most of the people that i know.so why out sudden and with no reason out of all what she said you only tried to figure out that she's trying to point out on the negative side of being in qatarr u normal for god sake??? but people who got bad intentions they will only pick the things that they think r bad.
You are welcome. The last thing I would want is to sound judgmental or paternalistic to a stranger whom I am talking to for the first time; yet, I believe saying the right thing could do no one harm. Your words have lasting effects and consequences for you. If you choose to utter the negative words only, people (mistakely) would take you for being a pessimist. A certain degree of positivity is not just desirable, it is also imperative.People like to be with those who exude a sense of warmth, hope and geniality. I hope my "lecture" does not bore you anew.Get well soon.
I am not a doctor neither know anything about medical but I have the same problem in the shape of alergy which normally happens to me almost once in 14 days. Once I start sneazing then flu, headache, fever and whatever relevant things. I tried this anti-alergic tablets, which worked very well for me and I dont have to visit the doctors anymore. Even it is not a permanent solution but even the doctors also dont have it.The tablets are Zyrtec (Cetirizine Hydrochloride) 10mg.If you have also something like alergy, just get these tablets from the pharmacy and hope it will help you for now. Get well soon
I'm not focusing on the negative, but yes I will only post when I have a problem or aquestion about something, and if that seems negative to you, then I don't know what to tell you, if everything is fine and dandy why would I even bother to write anything?
and thank you for your help.
Your comment does not offend me at all. In fact, your words infuse new life in me. Please laugh out loud.Well, actually, honestly speaking, as a doctor, I would not even recommend you to visit a hospital for this flu (which I know is indeed incapicitating but still not serious) until you have tried the over the counter panadol. My question still remains, is it that you are dileberately focusing on the negatives or is it just your inability to see the good things as well. By the way, I am not saying ANYTHING against your sweet and respectable person, I am only talking of your posts. And I am sorry I am new here I feel HMC is still the best place in town.
well actually it does offend me, what the hell is it to you if I'm negative or a ray of freaking sunshine? yeah im soooooooooo anti qatar thats why i'm here.. wow the morons just keep adding up.. I asked a question if you can't answer than please do me and yourself a favor and keep the lectures to yourself or go jump off a building preferably one that's more than 5 stories tall
oh and I hope my comment doesn't offend you!!
I am sorry to know about your problem dear. I hope you will feel better in a couple of days.I know you must have had a problem at HMC during your visit but can I a question, being a reader of your previous messages? Is it not that most of your messages point out ''negative aspects" of living in Qatar. It would be a gross stupidity to call you anti-Qatar but I can just not help noticing a systematic pattern to your threads. I hope my comment does not offend you.
