Shame-Doha Golf Club resticting non-members
Doha Golf Club is restricting non-memebrs from playing the 18-hole this week during Eid. So many non-members who play there a lot on the 9-hole and who spend money in the restuarants don't get much opportunity to play the 18 since it is rectricted to week days. Lo and behold, the club has defined all days during this week to be weekend days and are not allowing non-members to book times on the 18-hole course. If you are disturbed by this, send email to [email protected]

Mr Hann, you are clearly riled about this, but I don't think QL is going to provide the sympathy and action you are after. Better to canvas non-members at the club itself and see if you can muster some support.
Or perhaps you should just be thankful that Doha Golf Club does allow more liberal access to non-members then many other golf clubs. If they didn't, you'd have nowhere to play golf or hang out.
And I'm fairly sure that, when you consider the fees as well, the money members spend at the club far outweighs that of non-members, so they are doing far more to "contribute to club development". And remember that non-members are benefiting from this development as well. As a non-member I've seen the whole place improve immensely over the last two years and have benefited significantly from this.
I have been a member in other clubs and these clubs often severely restict access to non-members. Given that Doha Gold Club has allowed more liberal access to non-members where non-members contribute to club development, they deserve more consideration.
I have been on the waiting list for membership for 14 months, meanwhile spending mega dollars there to play when I can. This revenue goes a long way towards improving facilities there, which I'm sure members appreciate.
The club has decided to allow non-members to avail of services there. They gladly take our money. Members gladly accept the club improvements that revenue from non-members bring.
Given that non-member's business is welcome, non-members are entitled to better services. Those services should include 24-hour advance booking where members can book 7 days in advance. This 7-day advance booking will allow members to get their preferred tee-times on Eid and other holidays. It will also allow non-members playing priviliges on the 18 where members have first choice.
I have been on the wait list for membership for 14 months.
Brit et al, Dirab Golf Club in Riyadh is one I went to - It is a nice grass course surrounded by big jebels, deep wadis and huge sand dunes. The greenery just looks totally out of place!
Did you Google it first?
I have been on the wait list for membership since October, 2007. The club has choosen to cater to non-members, they gladly take the revenue that it generates (that gets members better services/facilities by the way) so they deserve at least some reasonable consideration and the Eid restriction is not it.
If members want to play during Eid, book 7 days in advance. Then allow non-members to book 24 hours in advance. Problem solved.
Seems pretty par-for-the-course to me. Yuk Yuk Yuk :P
Yeah, I'm sure dweller or someone has mentioned he used to play on one like that in Qatar.
Yes.. You take a mat with you.. Wherever the ball stops, you put it on to the mat and play your next shot. The greens are actaully "Browns".. They are compressed sand with a small amount oif oil on top..
brit - is that where you go round with your own piece of turf?
I think it used to be the same here, at the Dukhan or Messaied course.
Never played there but they let the Hash in to go camping for Guy Fawkes night.

Did you ever play at the Desrt Course in Riyadh ??? It was a strange concept..
In Riyadh non-members don't even get through the gate!
Riffa in Bahrain is quite open.
My local club in UK I could only get in for lessons, but was not allowed a drink at the bar.
BTW I sucked so I stopped trying ;o)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think non-members get to do far more at Doha Golf Club than they would at many other clubs around the world, don't they?
if you are disturbed by this, then pay the money to become a member. Problem solved!
Tall, I was hoping someone else would respond first ;o)
It's their club and they can restrict as they feel fit. If you want to have a say in their rules ... become a member.

I don't find this disgusting. I'd be more disgusted if I paid a lot of money to be a member and then found I couldn't book a round on the 18 hole during Eid because lots of non-members had booked it.
And I don't think that email address is correct.
