How prevalent is sexual harassment of women in Qatar and what are we doing about it?

Check out a website that encourages women to share their experience in Egypt via twitter and uses crowdsourcing technology to depict the locations on a map -

For Cheap labor- They get the cheap labor and billions in profit, and you gotta stay in and lock the doors and windows on the weekends.

I'm going to look into organizing the workers there. I bet they could shut down the country if they all walked off the job- They can't fire and deport all of them can they?

Nomercie- It sounds like you can really handle yourself out there in the jungle though..."Oh, he must have slipped"...lol

Mike, no need to practice, am pretty good.

And I won't be seen dead or alive in any other place than my own home on a Friday at 7 pm while in Qatar.

I do not have a death wish yet.

Back to the subject..Women like some ogling..

Bull Meachums Rule #23 On How To Keep A Wife Happy: Let her get all dolled up and take her out to were she can get ogled. They need that.

I'd always tell my friends to tell my wife she looks beautiful when we were out. They'd say stuff like "Hey I don't even tell my wife she's beautiful" So I'd stuff $10 in thier hand, sqeeze it and tell them to "JUST DO IT"

nomerci - Nobody in their right mind would even think of sexually harassing anyone in this pristine white sandy desert of pious self righteous men and women. Everyone is too sexually satisfied here to be thinking of something which is not theirs.

"ogling is considered sexual harassment never knew that, what else can a poor labourer do except stare at ladies after a 14 hour shift in male company"

___________________________________________________

Theres always a price to pay for bringin in slaves- Nothins free in this world people. If ogling is Qatars only price to pay then your gettin away with murder. And lets face it-Women like a certain amount of ogling, they need it, it's like fuel to them... Just be glad your slaves don't breed with your kids, dominate popular culture, or commit too many crimes.

And No, i'm not talking specificaly about black people in America. I'm talkin history

ogling

present participle of o·gle Verb: Stare at in a lecherous manner: "he was ogling her breasts"; "men who had turned up to ogle".

By Prism• 14 May 2012 09:51

Snessy...we need more women like you, specially in Qatar, I mean a bit relaxed and not up in arms for anything and everything. A simple or just a bit stretched look shouldnt be too much of a concern unless someone is trying to join the "touch me not" club, in which case they may as well just go out on Fridays to the malls.

This is a direct result of huge workforce employing here, with out the basic necessities. They are also humans, deprived of having normal way of life as others. Mainly they are away from their family. If we forget the other stuffs such as salary , housing condition etc.

We are aware about the people, who are working in shipping, behave when they sail into a harbor. Perhaps they will be away for very short time.

SO you can imagine the plight of these unfortunate people, who lives years and years away from their basic physical needs, How they will feel, when they come into town...??

Simply, this ogle and family day is a direct result of the above.

Lol UK, please don't say things like that, people may believe you. I don't think I'm beautiful but I don't think these men are fussy either and will stare at any girl no matter what she looks like. I'm just giving my opinion....

Staring can also be very intimidating if you're not used to it, I have left my trolley load of shopping at Lulu numerous times because I found if unbearable. I should also say, of all the times I was followed, it was never a labourer...

snessy you have a point over there, many people who come to work over here are seeing a westerner or arab women's first time in their life so they will surely stare at these people, but that doesnt mean they'll molest these ladies, so the best thing to do is ignore the people who are staring at you and never take it to a serious level unless you are followed.

By pointblank• 14 May 2012 09:22

its not only women are the target sometimes guys too are on the sight of the ogly ogling eye

not every ogling ends up as sexual harassment tinker.

By snessy• 14 May 2012 09:21
snessy

Yes...but more often than not it's harmless. I blame it on cultural differences, when in England I find men glance and then they may have another glance but in Qatar they don't seem to feel embarrassed when a girl catches them looking and carry on staring. But I wouldn't report it to the police unless they followed me.

By snessy• 14 May 2012 09:10
snessy

Being stared at isn't really harmful, just makes you feel uncomfortable. Being followed or intentionally brushed up against is as far as I'm concerned sexual harassment.

tinker i was thinking about the same point as JustArrived and wrote that comment. Ogling is sexual assault for people when they think poor and ugly are staring at them, but at times ogling too turns to be sexual harrasment like when you are frequently followed by someone.

Once a female colleague (a lady in her 60s) went to the nude beach in France (Nice) wearing swimming suit and she was forced to go back to her hotel as everybody in the beach were ogling her (as she was not nude)

You can wear a Bikini on the beach and no one ogle at you yet wear a tank top in the mall and you will get all the attention! So the dress and environment one is in also plays in the sexual Harassment!

Probably you need to ask two questions.

1. How prevelant is sexual harrasment and worse

2. How often does it get reported

actually probaly three.

3. How many convictions do the police make in a year.
