London: Police are hunting for a three-year-old believed to be Britain's youngest burglar.
The little girl allegedly stole cash from an elderly householder who had been distracted by an adult accomplice.
Police said the child was with a man who knocked on their 69-year-old victim's door on Monday afternoon.
The man, aged between 25 and 30, said he was selling tobacco.
He then allegedly asked if he could use the lavatory. Police say that while the man distracted the woman by talking to her, the three-year-old stole £10 from her purse.
Police said they were shocked at the age of the girl involved in the incident in Queensway, near Wellingborough, Northamptonshire.
Inspector Nick Lyallsaid he had never heard of such a young child taking part in a distraction burglary. It was extremely rare.
Claude Knights, of children's charity Kidscape, said: "This is almost Dickensian, it is Fagin-like to use a child in this way."
She this is real development, start them young
Poor kiddo...she couldn't have possibly done that knowing that it was wrong to do it. She must have been taking it as a game. Its so cruel to call her a thief.
