Schools

Well I'm here now. My family will come over in January. I'm Canadian with a 11 and a 15 year old son. Any suggestions about schools especially starting at mid-term?

Ive been told to avoid some like the plague thought and have learnt the hard way, lets just say I burnt my fingers....contact me on 5072310 and I;ll explain more....some state that they arent profit making but I beg to differ. Some dont even have qualified teachers teaching in the upper end of the primary school. I definitely know that I wouldnt want my kids to go to a few of the schools Im refering to!

Go in and visit, speak to the teachers and find out for yourself beforehand if they can actually speak understandable english as many of them have english as a foreign language aswell! Ask to see policies (which some schools wont have in place and look at the results......these will all be an indication of what schools are best....

The other thing you should check is the curriculum which they are following. Most say that they are folling the British National Curriculum - ask to see their overview etc as I know for a fact that several who state that they are using the UK stuff are actually text-book bound and just love photocopiable worksheets - now that to me isnt a curriculum or scheme of work!!

Good luck and take your time choosing as this could be a very interesting learning curve for you too!
