scary experience

on saturday 27 june 2009 , just like 3 days ago i was with my sister in villagio. we were in Starbucks just to grab a coffe to go. after we done taking the coffee, on my way out from STARBUCK, theres 2 guys wearing thobe qatari look alike was walking in front of me. i try to give them a way to walk, but one of the guy was stop walking and standing in front of me and start mumbling something in arabic, i didnt see direct to him and lower my eye gaze down. he was standing in my way for 3 mins and mumbling. i dont know wht he was doing by stoping my way like tht.....
i was wearing appropriate dress, sheila on, long dress with long sleeve and skinny jeans. next time wht kind of approaching method the guys in doha will do....
now some guys in doha even more brave in approachin ladies in doha.
maybe he was using his handsfree 3mins n stood there cos he was discussin something imp on the phone.. n dint actually notice u,how wud u know if u r gaze was downwards....u shud have just gone around him..
but good thing there's no police around i've heard spitting is prohibited here in Qatar..
samia08: well done!
I didnt understand one thing :S
u were scared of what???U should have just walked away & as u mentioned u were with ur sister & in Villagio so just chill coz he wont dare to do anything n a public area n then u should b strong enough to handle such situations!
and I knew it had to be you brit...
I was at the Ramada car park driving very slowly looking for an exit, when this agressive lady in high heels pestered me to give her a lift. I was so scared that I did :O(
Samia, he deserved what u gave him on his face. some people are so irritating.
I was waiting for my driver out side yesterday and this guy asked me to drop me off ,i said no thanks , but he insists , saying come with me pretty ,so I lost my temper and it was the first time in my life I spit in the face of somebody
Sylvia, He was hitting on you, take it as a compliment. There are many ways a man approaches a woman depending on his level of experience and confidence and looks like in this case his "mumbling" indicated he was lacking in both but as long as he is not disrespectful I cant see the harm done.
day dont do anything for you you just egnore them.
the women need to start doing the same thing to men and you are more than welcome to start with me.
It's so simple to be wise. Just think of something stupid to say and say the opposite
Such a drama queen..next time tell a story where you're in the middle of no where and suddenly a hero saves you
but in starbucks! try again
there are a lot of men who think
No abaya = slut
The way my partner was treated was so vastly different when not wearing or wearing it, thats sadly how it is in Qatar
It can be unnerving when guys do things like that to a woman.
Silvia...next time, take your cell phone and take a picture of them saying you are going to call police and show them who was harrassing you. Then tell them that God/Allah is always watching what you do...that will usually make them leave.
If you pick up a starving dog and make him prosperous, he will not bite you; that is the main difference between a dog and man.
-Mark Twain-
Why were you scared? i dont get it... the guy just stopped, so overtake him and keep walking, no need to get scared unless he pulls out a knife...
guys, you may think that silvia is overreacting but believe me, if you will be put in situation like that for the first time, you would really be in shock. the first time someone had stalked me in a mall (following me from the grocery to second floor up to the third floor), i was trembling with fear. im not a softy and never an emotional person, but that time, i wanted to cry right then and there..
usapa na...
You can't teach experience...
You can't teach experience...
the girl is somewhat in shock with what happened to her.. take it easy on her.
and Silvia Abdullah take all the advise in mind and just ignore all the unnecessary inputs.
i agree that some men just dont know how to behave in front of a woman.
peace. =)

"OMG someone looked at me" call police!!!
....It makes me laugh, pay close attention to all the looks, the talk and make it into a HUGE DEAL!
....."Pay no attention", (head up) go about your business don't be looking around to see who is looking at you ..... and you will find, "it will no longer be an ordeal"
Some people just need attention, and those are the ones that have scary experience usually in malls. Get a Life!
PS. Find any good sales?
i just want to share with you my experience, one arab said in front of my face "i want to f_ck you and my d!ck is like these (signal up to elbow) and i retort back and said "no you're d!ck is like these (signal my pinkie)
mind you, there was no provocation i was just browsing at the magazine section and i am just alone, he just walked away (maybe feeling insulted) but i was beyond shock.
but then, i also met a holy arab (really they exist) after closing a deal,i extend my hand for a handshake and he declined and told me that he is a holy muslim.
to overreact and stereotype.

The only reason this stands out is:
1 - Population + M/F ratio
Back home, this goes for every one, the chance is just as big to have an encounter with an idiot that does not know how to behave.
maybe women are getting paranoid here, and feeling arabs were always have a malicious intent due to scarcity of women.
your way in EVERY direction in a busy shopping mall. You have multiple directions you can go in and only 2 guys. Tell me how they would stop you without making a scene?

What is wrong with people? Everyone makes a big deal about little things here....

Tell them Dont Even Try!!!!!!!!!
They were actually trying u....whether u will go with them or not...
similar things have happned wid me......guys move round and round....passing on their cell numbers...frst in arabic and then also in english.....and also staring!!best solution....is just ignore....pretend ur deaf and dumb.....and walk away!!believe me...it has wrked 100% im born and brought up here...have been following dis funda ...try it next time if u wanna be safe and avoid unnecessary attention frm these weirdos!
Two words to shock them into leaving you alone. Said with complete confidence.
MOVE. BITCH.
Maybe you should try to act like you're deaf......:)
and you were all prefectly dressed hmmm guess he was trying to tell you to shut you skinny jeans zipper.
if that's the case, give him a number: 999
probably he's asking for your number... that's very common here in Qatar.
silvia, tell him " mafi, arabic". then walk away...
usapa na...
i was in villagio and how am i supposed to know tht he might asked for help, i dont understand arabic. and if he nedds help, he can ask any guys who seat in starbucks or security for help , not to gurls.......
and oryx as like i said earlier, i tried to find the other way, but the other guy who standing there is blocking the way........and am stuck.
its just bothers me tht guy show no respect when the gurl has no interest.
thanks andeeeee
whats the drama? walk away.
What does he look like when he starts mumbling? since u don't understand arabic, have you like somehow think that maybe he's just trying to ask for your help?
You said you're in the mall, there are securities all over, and i think there's always someone there to help you or give assistance...
well it's just that my "WHAT IF" habit strikes me again... :) peace! :-)
Pretend to take off a few top buttons and see if their eyes pop out. Give them a flirting smile. They will collapse with heat attack.
lo0ol.........the "deaf and dumb" method maybe will work. but i was talking to my sister and i dont think they will buy tht.......hehehe........
about ppepper spray.....is it allowed here? where can i get one? i never had this thing in my purse other than wallet, mobile phone, parfumes and their friends and car keys....lo0ol XD
and arecel, i tot u said usapa na to me....thts y i told u tht am not filipino.
its just so strange to me, normally the guy will attempt such act if the gurl give them the signal. but i duno him or not even see him, i just met him on my way out. wht a stupid a****
lol yani .....would have loved to hear it ....
[img_assist|nid=50852|title=hmm|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=|height=0]
just ignore him and walk away
its that simple!!!
lib, lol... another thing i learn in my stay here.:-)
usapa na...
I loved the 'what to do yani' part. So original...lol :)
Life is Beautiful...Indeed!
Just show him your cellphone and say you'll call the police. That will send him running.
silvia, you think filipinos are good at quarelling? hehhehe.. believe me, we only knew how to act tough when we got here. got to adjust you know.. sometimes, i myself, am sadden by how often i cursed in a day:-( cursing is never allowed in my parent's house and i grow up hating to hear my friends colorful language. but what to do yani? the men here are thick, aren't they? unless you are foaming in the mouth, babbling threats, they'll never get it that you are not interested in them.:-(
usapa na...
BTW and am not filipino arecel :)....am indonesian and am not good at quarelling
Bring tear gas (pepper spray) always with you to be safe, aim at his eyes.
next time communicate with him by hand language so he'll understand that you are deaf and dumb. maybe it'll work
..to suggest you to follow him as in trail him. I meant only if possible.
The best way is to confront. Most of these guys who do such silly stuff are from good local families and get a kick out of acting like thugs and bullies.I guess thats the way to prove their friends that they are 'cool'.If you confront ; they get scared.
Believe me there is nothing to be scared of these guys. They are funny pricks.
Life is Beautiful...Indeed!
option A works all the time... :P
just like i tell my wife everytime she's alone, if somebody harrasses you in any way kick him straight in the balls as hard as you can then call security or police, these types are not to be tolerated at any cost or at any time.
'SO DARK THE CON OF MAN'
if i follow the guy , it will send the wrong signal to them.
normally if the guy follow me, i just simply ignored them as they not even exist, but this one stopping my way out. i didnt even give them face, y the hell he should bother to stand in my way.
wearing abaya ........i dont get used to it cos thts not my "formal dress".
its not the drama. i was stuck in the place where i cant move ad his friends was next to him blocking the way...and i have to lower my eye gaze so he will think i hv no interest where actually to hide scary feeling
next time, look him in the eye and ask : "what's your problem?" khalas..:-)
usapa na...
Next time...
Look straight at the guy and tell him to
A) F*ck off
B) Take a hike
C) Take a mental note, and go jerk off somewhere
I know it is not polite, but sometimes you just have to take a stand.
Males, especially Arabs, are scared of strong women. Walaahazim!!!
Just walk away... why all the drama... if he stands in front of you, turn around and go the other way....whats the scary thing... your in a mall... people come and go if some stands in front of you and mumbles - turn around and walk the other way... if he follows you thats something else....
next time wear abaya it's more safe for you.
Why did u lower your eye GAZE ?
Never Do Tat.
ask him what is his problem and take out your mobile and pretend that u are calling the police.
You can give without loving, but you cannot love without giving!!!
...to bear with these guys. Or you can complain if you can dare to. These guys know that expats from some countries are too timid to react hence they do such things. Best way to tackle this would be try and follow these guys and see their car number sna d report. I doubt this would lead to any serious action against them as you will have nothing to prove but it would certainly act as a deterent of sorts.
