Speeding motorist saves a cat, causes death of 4 workers
Four Asian workers were killed and 21 others injured when the bus they were travelling in flipped and rolled several times after a four-wheel drive vehicle collided with it as its driver was trying to avoid a cat here on Tuesday.
The accident took place in Al Rams area of Ras Al Khaimah at 5am. A 26-year-old Emirati national, identified as Mohammed Saif, who was recently appointed a government employee in Dubai, was speeding when he lost control of his 4WD while trying to avoid a cat that ran across the road. The vehicle collided with the bus coming from the opposite direction, causing the death of four workers who were on their way to work at a construction site
Yet- I'm 15 minutes from a major modern metropolitan city- But there's allot of wildlife here..Deer, Elk, Moose, Giant Mountain Lions, Bears, etc..etc..etc.. First thing I teach my kids it that if one darts out in front of you when your doing 80mph- Just hit the brakes, duck down, and plow into it. People die on 285 all the time and its usually the roll over that gets em, that or the roof instantly crashing in on thier heads as the beast flys up into it.... So just get down and plow straight into it.
Having said that I have a half mile driveway and I have stopped for mice before..They look like a little white things darting across the road at night, I've actually swerved (at slower speeds) to avoid them before. Thats how I am, I don't hurt animals unless I plan on eating them.
Cats are sacred in some religions!!!! all in the name of religion!
CL, if I had a nickel for every "but a deer ran in front of me, that's why I ran off the road" story, I'd be a gazillionaire. Aren't that many deer in the world! Idiots!

poor little cat and well done that man for risking his own life to save the poor thing x x :)
if that would have been a camel that driver was in trouble..
one nyt i put step on my brake coz a cat was crossing..
with the lights eeach side it was smash by the LC..
the cat manage to move enter a gate with half body smashed..
coudnt help it coz im afraid to follow it inside the compound..
it felt horible..

It’s really simple to understand what went wrong.
The guy in the incoming lane had a black berry in one hand, redbull in the other eyes were burning from the cigarette (which I don’t know how Mast arrived at the conclusion that the man must of had been on BB as well as drinking a redbull smoke and driving, all at ones! Well unless our friend MRST imagines the Emerti’s to be super Spidermen with multiple hands) and then the left foot was high up and the rear view mirror tilted on 1/2 past 2. \
(MRST were you sitting next to him and you saw that?)
it's a normal instinct of any drivers to brake or tried to avoid something once that something crosses their path while driving..the driver action is not to save the cat but to avoid the cat....

FathimaH:We don’t know anything about the 4WD guy and his side of the story.
Perhaps the guy had just received a call. The news of a tragic accident to his family or serious damage to property after a fire! Or the death of his parent or child!
Point is some of you already judging the man and all you got is a half fried story that has no link or source of info to verify it’s validity.
Don’t judge until you've been through all the details.

FathimaH it is ironic that you are calling this a 'criminal' act (which I totally agree) when unfortunately these acts are not treated in these countries as such.
One of the things that freaks me out is this 'blood money' law that they have in place. As much as I agree that the families of the deceased should be compensated for the loss, this money should not replace the punishment to the offender.

Sad.. and im sure he wasn't trying to save anything .. its just a stupid common excuse that most motorist use here to get ride of severe traffic fines and penalties .. Again, thats just what "I think"
That's really really sad..what a terrible accident. All because of one man's irresponsible and criminal act the lives of many will now be shattered. What kind of recompense will be due from him now I wonder.

I think it was the speeding, not trying to save the cat, that caused the deaths.
I don't think he wanted to save the cat, he wanted to save his car from the impact with the cat!
