Saudi warns of big dust storm

By storm

The Saudi General Authority for Meteorology and Environmental Protection has warned residents across the Gulf of a massive storm carrying 2bn tonnes of sand in the coming days. Based on satellite data, the forecast says that the storm will originate in Iraq and strike the north-eastern and central parts of the kingdom first.
Local Arabic daily Arrayah said the forecast also said that visibility would be very poor in the affected areas. The authority has requested that residents take caution and stay indoors when the storm hits.
The Doha weather office has refused to either confirm or deny the reports.
Tarek al-Ashmawy, the head of forecasts in Jeddah, had stated that the storm was likely to affect areas west of Iran and Kuwait, adding that a lack of rainfall in the past ten years has deprived these regions of greenery that anchors the soil and prevents it from rising during a storm.
The Iraqi forecast authorities had also warned the Gulf nations of the possible spread of the storm from its land to those surrounding it.
Satellites have caught sight of a sandstorm heading towards Middle Eastern countries, and forecasts say it may last up to a week.

it's just a sand storm! no pollution in it! it's not smog (SMoke+fOG). no need for it. and the visibility so far is 300m. more than enough to spot killer land cruiser cars!

QL was tipped like 2-3 days ago of this sand storm!

hard time for asthmatics and housewifes, good news for the car washers.

Sand Storm is business as usual in this part of the world. Strange, but what measures could the so call environment people can do except for stay indoor advice. Other countries would declare this as emergency with the API level already at the dangerous level.

JM.. they are not empty, it is just that because of the dust storm and lack of clear visibility you cannot spot any cars on the Road..
