Salary increases for selected countries

I have heard from several sources that mandatory salary increases for foreigners working in certain industries are in the works--similar to what happened with nationals last year.

Because of my profession, I am not eligible, so I have no direct interest in this, but both sources indicated that the increases would be for citizens of selected countries (i.e. EU) only.

My questions:

1. Has anyone else heard this from a reliable source?

2. Is the tiering of raises based on nationality reasonable?

This news started circulating when the nationals received their raise the previous year, and it's still circulating.

If true, it sounds like there has been some difficulty recruiting from certain countries lately.

I have heard similar things from some reliable and some unreliable sources. My guess is that it is being considered but not decided yet.

Qatar University originally promised large raises to its expat employees in line for those received by citizens. Then they were retracted.

This might be something in line with that.

Doing it by nationality would be in keeping with originally giving large raises to citizens only in certain sectors.

Also, most Western expats don't work for government entities, so it won't cost that much either.
