ROUNDABOUTS in DOHA

By Nurkulova

You reaching a R/About and depending on the Direction you are:
--- on the LEFT Lane to make a U
--- on the MID Lane to take a left or keep straight
--- on the RIGHT Lane to go straight or take the Right turn.

Is that right?

Those who don't like to manoeuvre a roundabout should hire a 100T mobile crane and have it follow you. Whenever you reach stop the car before entering the roundabout and let the crane lift the car and place it in the desired exit.

Acadian not EVERYONE in Qatar is as uneducated as you might think including the Qataris, and one's driving skills has nothing to do with education, yes there are some reckless drivers but hey they are EVERYWHERE. In my years of driving experience i've only come across a handful of morons on the road. I see that i'm careful and alert on the roads and I enjoy my driving.

Watching how some people drive here in Doha is a reminder of how certain individuals have missed the evolution of education and living in society, respect for others and the inability to recognize the dangers of their actions. One cannot expect too much from people that have gone from C to C with no education in between

Logically for three lanes leading to two lanes after the round about these are to be followed

In LEFT lane you turn left or go straight to left lane of the two lane road

In MIDDLE lane you go straight to the right lane of the two lane road

In RIGHT lane you turn right or go straight to right lane of the two lane road.

Here however there can be exceptions to the rules depending on how the traffic is and your driving skills. You may turn to take the left from the middle lane provided there's no on coming traffic from your left side wanting to go straight and you must give Left indicator BEFORE you enter the round about.

You may also get into the left lane of the two lane road from the middle lane again depending if there is no car to your left.

You will be then wondering what do the cars on the RIGHT do if there is a car in the middle lane wanting to get into the right lane of the two lane road. Qatar rules simply says ALWAYS GIVE WAY TO THE TRAFFIC ON YOUR LEFT.

Well what happens on roundabouts with 3 lanes and the approaching road has only 2 lanes....like that in front of the Exhibition Centre, where cars in all the 3 lanes of the roundabout want to go straight?

Another weird act I saw was on small roundabouts like that near the Lulu Centre in Al Saad, people driving straight over it.

None of these rules will work in R/A look all mirrors and drive as u like

..always make sure you've got a 360 degree view of everything that's moving once you enter the R/A and after you're safely far away from it...

I like one particular R/A in Doha at Ain Khalid near the Industrial Area. I believe it is the smallest R/A in the Qatar.. I once went over that roundabout.

Cabbage..

Strange people arn't they?

While driving I do see children stick out their head, hanging around and waiving..and the dad and mom on their own, chatting on the phone or enjoying their coffee. At this case I always make it a point to go near them, honk and alert the mom or dad...."hello u have got kids, get them in".

I am never afraid to do this even if they are locals- after all they are kids.

It's the idiots I see before I lead up to them.

I was driving up Salwa Road today and I saw a man in a small white car - two young girls on the back seat not strapped in and bouncing around (no shock there to most).

The back windows were down and they were waving and hanging out of the window - the Dad loving this - he was thinking, 'what good fun for my much loved children'.

I was so horrified - he was weaving in and out of the traffic and of course the kids were loving it.

I slowed down - I had this awful gut feeling that somehow this was going to end up terribly, and I did not want to witness it.

He then cut across three lanes of traffic to come off at the intersection before you go over Midmac - what an utter fool and I do hope those two children survived.

R/A's are bad over here but so is the rest.

Getting back to R/A's they are all bad as very few people know how to use them.

At least at R/A's they are slow and the bump you get is nothing compared to a FULL on crash with a speeding nutter.

I didn't realise there were any rules, I thought it was a free for all at all roundabouts.

but he was in the right and you were in the wrong....if he had to stop to avoid you hitting him, and he got hit up the back.......then you are to blame for the accident(plus the drivers behind who should have left enough breaking distance)

Nurkulova, for safe journey, if you are in the middle lane then u must go only staight not left at any cost cos the guyz on the innerlane (here in Qatar) go U, left and straigt. Have safe driving..

Rules are made for you to follow not for me....

By Nurkulova• 18 Apr 2011 21:39

Yesterday I was at the Mid Lane going to take a left..but the Inner Lane tryed to take STRAIGHT and almost hit me on my side...but we both had a quick reaction. BUT he got his car hit from his back.

still have coloured cars on them.

When they did (if they now don't) it was believed that the colour of the cars detemined which way the car should go at the roundabout.

For example: Red left, Green straight, Blue right.

Other colours could please themselves.

nazliambreen Ive read the all comments...thank you.

THE RULES ALWAYS SAY:

Do not change ur lane! So HOW the heck its allowed for the Inner Lane to be a KING and drive Straight by Blocking the Other Mid and the LEFT Lanes???? Should we like guess where the Inner King decides to drive??? Or all the Lanes keep straight or right only....I always bthought the MID is always SAFE to be at..but seems not really

On three lane enrty and exist roundabouts this is the rule perfectly:

'according to one policeman of qatari traffic

left lane ---go straight ,u turn ,left turn

mid lane---only to go straight

right lane---to go straight ,turn right'

This way no car will EVER be able to cut in front of you.
