coming back to the topic...no body is going to ask for your university degree certificate to see if you got your degree from calicut or from connecticut!i am an engineer.....but when asked,i never say i am an engineer from so-and-so unversity....ppl would think i'm crazy!the same goes for any degree/diploma.

And about copying during exam, gal.. it is an art!! and I'm blessed with that. :-) Now dont temme you never copied during yer exams (You can disagree just for the debate sake) els, you must be a big time nerd !! ;P

i took an engineering degree because of the first two reasons you asked....coz i was genuinely interested in taking an engineering degree and coz i was confident of career advancement, and also coz i was least interested in commerce right from the beginning.

IMHO,universities offering degrees/diplomas to individuals like those cannot be accepted....coz then what value is given to those hard-earned degrees by all those students who have worked hard for so long to reach where they are?it's just like u go to write a university exam after studying through several sleepless nights and the guy sitting next to you gets the 1st rank after copying all through the entire exam! (i've been through that!that's why i say so! x-( my blood boils when i think of that incident)

Saggi,

Why do you take an engineering course? You really need to know about all those engineering stuffs or to get a good job or your parents forced to?

If you ask me why i took my ACCA or B.com, i would say that to get a highly paid job than knowing all debits and credits !

So Answering your question, Yes i support universities giving out degrees and diploma certificates to school dropouts and failures. As i told you before, may be they understood the importance of studies at the later stage of their life (May be after 30 years) after working for a low paid jobs or they don't have a situation to study properly like you had in your school times with highly equipped PC's , reference etc?

So they don't have an other option or a second chance to correct their mistake which they done during their teenage?

C'mon saggi !!

that is precisely why i said that saying that one has done his/her MBA or whatever ordinary degree course has little/no value these days coz of all those 'open universities' that offer these courses.and it's not even mentioned in the degree certificate if the degree was obtained by attending gruelling classes or by just lounging in front of the PC in the comfort of one's home.

but tell me honestly....do you support universities giving out degrees and diploma certificates to school drop-outs and failures?

Saggis... its the same for all degrees..with the umpteen number of pvt engg colleges in our country..

and how do we know if anyone really hold a degrees..no one is asking for the certificate here... even the employers...

Background check for employment don’t exist in most of the companies in this part of the world..

Its not he three letters that matters.. its the business school that issued the degree that matters more…

My dad was in the first batch of Indian Institute of Management in Bangalore… way back in mid 70’s..he was in his late 30’s at that time…he is Doc by profession.. nobody heard of such a degree those days..

...but english is taught in college for 3 years during their degree, non?how the heck did they pass their exams with this level of grammar?either the examiners were bribed or they themselves cannot differentiate between right and wrong.

do not confuse between writng properly and speaking properly.a huge majority of people all over the world who write in perfect english have a problem in verbally expressing themselves in the same language.blame it on english not being their native language.that is understandable.but when they write something, care should be taken to take the grammar and spellings seriously.

this is a real life incident that happened a while ago...i was visiting a relative and a dor-to-door salesman turned up one morning and started his usual patter with my uncle.well one thing led to another and finally they both ended up in an argument of sorts.the sales guy says "look mister,i have a degree in business administration...and i know my job"...."young man,you are now talking to a person who has done his MBA in International Business.so don't teach me the rules of the game" quipped in my uncle.the sales guy left the scene in a fit of anger without saying anything more.after he'd gone,i asked my uncle,"as far as i know u never saw the gates of a university after u graduated.when did you do your MBA???" he grins at me and said,"how will he know that?"

till date,i keep wondering if all those people who claim to be MBA holders have actually done it...i mean,we have no proof do we?:-o blame it on all those cheap degrees available for purchase x-( thank heavens i have done my engineering degree....that's not available on e-bay :-P

In India,,,, most of these college level students does not necessarily have english as their first language.. those what you have mentioned are probably the ones who have learned to use internet recently and out of their villages in the "quest to zero in" on better prospective degrees.

How many of the other nationality doctors, engineers or Phd in Qatar have people come across who speak impeccable english...?

i believe they do offer degree courses in regional languages in some states but as far as i know, post graduate courses are offered only in english.but in all degree courses (other than professional courses like engg.,medicine, law and chartered accountancy),learning english as part of the curriculum is mandatory for all three years.

Is it possible that some of these people studied in their mother tongue, rather than English ? Do Universities / colleges in India teach subjects in Hindi ?

perhaps more to the point, many people try and obtain "cheap" MBAs just to further their job prospects.

u see...even to obtain a degree,it is mandatory to know at least something beyond just joining a few alphabets and making a word.these people are talking of taking post graduate courses!and without even basic grammar and knowledge of simple spellings(and it's 'dumb' and not 'dump',and 'everybody' and not 'everbody' :-P),i don't think they should be even thinking of doing something of that sort.they should all be given copies of 'Wren & Martin'....
