Rights Activist Murdered...

We harp on rights abuses in Qatarm but there's a whole wide world out there, where many shameful acts are occurring daily...............................

A Russian campaigner on human rights was abducted and murdered on Wednesday, hours after her organisation backed calls for Vladimir Putin to face trial over atrocities in Chechnya.

Natalya Estemirova, who won numerous international awards for her work, was bundled into a car as she left her home in Grozny, the Chechen capital. Her body was later found by the side of a road in the neighbouring province of Ingushetia. She had been shot twice in the head at close range.

Mrs Estemirova, a single mother in her early 40s, was the seventh opponent of Ramzan Kadyrov, the Kremlin-backed Chechen president, to have been murdered in the past 10 months.

Although she was not a political rival, Mrs Estemirova was one of the few figures in Russia who dared to expose abuses in Chechnya.

Hours before she died, activists held a press conference that called for Mr Putin's prosecution before an international criminal court.

A very good point. I "marched" against apartheid, against racism, against nukes at Greenham Common, against Trident and even against the first Gulf War...

People have become too apathetic now. They want change, but can't be bothered to get off their arse to bring it about :o(

The sad thing is that our leaders harp on about morlity and ethics, but turn a blind eye when it suits their needs..

Very typical of Putin. I'm not surprised. Regular occurance. This is just the tip of the iceberg in Russia.

labda, that should happen everywhere. Revolutions are badly needed. But people are getting lazy. Maybe the economic crisis these days will trigger some more unrest, as the press likes to call it.

I think the Russians are already revolting :o)

It seems that putin's KGB background is serving him well..

Honestly the way Putin kills off his dissenters while the world tiptoes around him is unbelievable. Its like the Tsars and Stalin all over again. Absolutely pathetic! There should be another Russian Revolution.
