as far as I know this is called QATAR living...not India, Pakistan etc. living.
All you people talk about is your local politics, Hindi movies , hindi festivals etc.
Now, don't get me wrong, to a certain degree all this is fascinating and interesting...to a CERTAIN DEGREE.
This degree has be exceeded to its max!
QATAR living people. QATAR!

tinker, you are right on all counts. And thank you for praising some of my comments /subjects :)

See, of course one does nor ONLY have to talk about Qatar, that would be terminally boring, ;). But if we could keep those manifold country specific threads a bit more restricted, I think all may be served.

The hijacking/language etc issue, well, I have no problem with a little chat or hijacking, I find it often livens up an otherwise boring/serious thread. BUT, here as everywhere else, we must apply common sense and curtesy, to not go overboard.

The love threads...lololol, annoying, YES, but at times highly entertaining and a good source to apply what I love...darkest sarcasm.....but, that's just me. ;)

their native dialect" frequently on the main forum, even if just for part of the post. To me this is rude and similar to when you are in a group with a common language between you but you choose to speak in a language that certain people don't know. I was raised to think this was rude. More importantly, this is distinctly against the forum rules so making excuses for it doesn't wash in my opinion.

I also hate the hijacking and chit chatting, which are also against the forum rules and I think those people should be warned and banned if they continue. It might be good just to have a thread for chit chatting that stays open all the time so the culprits will stop doing it on every thread they enter.

As for the Love threads, I hate them but unfortunately they are not against the rules. I wish there would be a forum opened for these pathetic lost souls so they would be put out of their misery.

tinker...as I said before...AND posted in the original thread starter....after mentioning A FEW nationalities there is an ETC.

This means there are more nationalities that are doing the same thing.

I also said , that some of the subjects posted are, indeed, very interesting, but it would be nice if things could be restrained just a bit, as we do actually live in Qatar.

IF you read my thread starter, you will be able to confirm what I just now repeated. :)

Yes attention seekers and new members who dont know where to post what, may be coz they are still getting used to the site, trolls etc

This is all part and parcel of an online forum. Thats why we have mods and admins to take care of the mess. Lets leave them to do their job.

But i agree people sometimes dont really know how to use a forum properly, where to discuss, where to joke, and when to just turn a blind eye. We cant be expecting everyone to use a little common sense.

Cryspy, QL has a section for posting religious topics, and in that a person can post his topics on Islam, Hinduism or Christianity to his/her hearts content.

If a religious topic has been posted in the mains it automatically gets removed or shifted to its rightful section...as and when the mods happen to see it.

I dont read religious topics.

Yes Flor, and we are still merely discussing the topic that she raised and i am still pointing out where she is wrong in telling people what they should and should not be posting. She has her right to voice her opinion and we have the right to do the same.

She does not violate any guidelines and neither does what she's referring to "All you people talk about is your local politics, Hindi movies , hindi festivals etc."

violate any guidelines

By flor1212• 28 Oct 2010 10:21
flor1212

in your view, does the OP violated any guidelines in posting her thread? It's her view and she is entitled to it as you also entitled to question her motive. Right? I find nothing wrong in her thread. It is more of a reminder to me than a question of whether she is dictating something? This is just an exchange of views and we are all entitled to our individual views! Good morning!

Flor everywhere we go we will find things that annoy us, when you switch on the tv majority of the channels are in Arabic true? So can say i dont want to see those channels on my tv screen?

I agree that the quality of topics have gone to the dogs and this has been long since...we cant stop people from posting what they like, everyday there are new members here who will post things that have been posted before, who all are we going to control?

If you see a title in English and inside its in some other language, if its posted in a group, who's fault is it that that topic is visible on the main forum? The people or the design of the site?

By flor1212• 28 Oct 2010 10:08
flor1212

not post in the group forum rather than the main forum? (this was the discussion of HGL and WK above, I think so).

By flor1212• 28 Oct 2010 10:06
flor1212

I understand your comment but you should also understand the view of the OP. I think she is not dictating but giving her preference for a common subject to be discussed in the main forum.

If you remember just recently, some complaint about many Qler opening thread that were titled in English but happened to be a group story. It is just the same like this in this line. Sometimes (and not all the times), it is annoying that the main board is flooded by threads either of no particular interest but also sometimes for a "particular country's" interest which leave the other "a little bit" annoyed by such posting.

I know you'll say that "if you don't like the post, don't comment or don't even open it". But isn't it also annoying saying that as a general defense?

By smoke• 28 Oct 2010 09:56
smoke

Flor, if everyone were to think that way no one would be posting anything. My point being so WHAT if majority of the topics being posted here come from any particular region if it so happens to be that there's a majority of them on the site? No one's stopping the others from posting are they?

Talking in native language in main forum topics i agree is against the community guidelines but where does it say only talk about things happening in Qatar on Qatarliving.com? Is Nomerci dictating HER terms to her to follow coz she has a problem with it?

that to a certain level, it's okay. As a responsible poster, we should always be vigilant in moderating ourselves.

Many other Qler made this complaint before and I really wonder why the OP is being singled-out in her view. Yes, the main board is for everyone, but please have the decency to moderate ourselves or chaos on board will just be intolerable! We should distinguished what is plain ranting and legitimate complaint based on existing community guidelines! Good morning people!

News about people's own countries is totally acceptable, in fact I quite enjoying reading them as I wouldn't know about them unless I read about it here on QL.

But...the particular thread that sparked this thread last night was on the main forum by an active QLer completely in Hindi. To top it off, this particular user uses Hindi in his posts at every given opportunity on the main forum. dear no-sense-ci,

Tell me who made you the MOTHER of QL? As always you cant seem to mind your own business and open threads to seek attention.

Need we all remind you that QL is a public forum and anyone and everyone is free to post as and what they like and thats the bottom line. No one is stopping anyone of the "others" from posting about their culture, talk about english/german movies are we?

If your point is about people talking in their own language in main forums then yes your thread could have made some sense, but that is not the case here.

If majority of the active people on a forum belong to a particular region what does your common sense (that you seem to be distributing to people freely)tell you?

You want to know more about whats happening in Qatar pick up a newspaper perhaps, you want to discuss something happening in Qatar post a thread on it.

What is unacceptable is you thinking you can just run your mouth about something YOU personally do not like to see on QL and are the same level as any one of those individuals that you despise A EXPAT.

It is time to accept that you need indians to survive, then you should have the goodness to accept their culture and ways and respect them. after all indian culture has glorius past which any western or arab culture doesnt.

but seems like not a lot as you are right that most topics would not be of interest to non-Indians or non-Paks, not to mention that if you don't know urdu or hindi you will not understand many of the remarks posted. I spoke about the hijacking before and pointed out that there is a certain group, from a certain geographical region that use the forum like their chat room and all hell broke loose for me daring to mention it. Certain posters seem to live for qatarliving (and I know one who doesn't work and lives at home with his mum so has countless time on his hands to post inane one-liners) and they feel compelled to hijack and flirt at every turn.

A lot of the females are no better. Last night, I signed off because some interesting threads turned to an OTT flirtation between one female and several male posters with her discussing wet dreams. FFS!

It does seem that the whole site is not nearly as balanced as it was before but there's not a whole lot that can be done other than to find other sites (which I have begun doing). You might want to look around nomerci, and find something that is not so "one-sided".

Just because someone writes in English is that sufficient to be considered as following the giudelines of the main forum.. I hate people turning every thread into their love story or their personal chit chat... and if the posting in once own language is far and wide, the other is the story rolled out on every other thread... should I also bring up a thread for that, because I dont appreciate it.

I think Indians are the majority in Qatar, yet I find so many posts about foreign people and their culture in QL! In other words... I am amazed by the number of posts in QL which has nothing to do with India and its people! This has become my pet peeve now!

All Indians please post more and make yourself more visible on QL.....just like you are on the streets, office buildings, souks, groceries etc.

saeed, generally I have no problem with any of it. BUT, having all this, and it is mostly about a certain region, happening in a forum called Qatar living is not quite right is it?

As I said, I know, as it is abvious, that most active users are from those regions, still, maybe they can post about things that actually concern Qatar too?

And being stared at is not nice no matter who does it....in this case it was certain people, simply because they are present in this area. Not my fault, non?

Also I have no problem with people talking in their language, albeit not in the main forum, as it is rude to do so when others can't understand. It's manners, nothing more, nothing less.

Totally agree Nomerci, it hacks me right off! It's bad enough clicking on a topic with the title in English to find out it's for a particular group, but for it to be on the main forum is a waste of everyone's time!

Cryspy...I can't speak Hindi so not sure where you've got my name from!

BTW... I do not support posting in a language other than english on the main forum though at times I have also done that.

I'm wondering though are the posters trying to make some kind of point here...have I missed something? anyways QL "main forum" is for everyone and there are "groups" for those specific posts. why spoil a good thing, folks? Be fair and play by the rules please, whatever grievances you may have.

And to recap, as I already said in my thread starter....it can be very interesting,IF and WHEN it is kept to a certain limit.

I do realize that most active posters on QL are from the above mentioned area, never the less, this IS Qatar.

I am sure there are places where continuous posts about above mentioned areas, concerns ,politics ,culture etc .are welcome and appropriate, but as it is at this time , I find it inappropriate.

By nomerci• 27 Oct 2010 22:08

By Alumnar• 27 Oct 2010 22:07

I like your profile pic mana - perfect for Halloween ;)

Seems like a certain person can post a (absolutely not) Funny on the main forum in his native language and get away with that and much more! Are the Mods blind? How much more do we have to read in non-English on the main forum or put up with hijack after hijack? Hello??? How about actually reinforcing rules and doing something about this?

I have no problems with the topics. They are free to post whatever they like. I do have issues with the hijacking and the use of "non english" in the main forums. The guidelines are clear, but people ignore them just to show off..
