Resignation
Well, it's time for me to move back home to Canada. Qatar is nice and all, but they need to wake up with accommodation inflation if they want people to work here. I would appreciate anyone's advice on what to watch out for when giving 30 days' notice to my employer, and moving back home. This process is easy in other countries where a sponsor doesn't control your ability to leave the country! Thanks for any comments and suggestions!
Don't forget elect&water, qtel, satellite tv, etc. if you have these in your own name.
Thanks everyone.
I'll be going to the bank to cancel my credit card in the next couple days. I'll let everyone know what my bank does, and which bank. I'll ask them about closing my account as well, i.e. unused cheques.
I do have another job lined up back home, no worries there.
Does anyone have a link to a "real" copy of Qatar Labor Law?
My contract had a clause for mob expenses, but not demob. Can you guys see any recourse there? Foolish of me to sign it, but someone suggested there may be a clause in the Labor Law to the effect of "return the employee and his belongings to his home country" yadda yadda
Cheers.
One of my colleagues just resigned. I'll keep an eye on how his situation develops and I'll warn you in case any problem/issue arises.
I'm sorry to hear that u're leaving. I would suggest b4 u resign there u must get a job offer in ur country so by the time u get back ur income flow should not start.
I wish u best of luck!! if possible for u to sacrifice a little on accommodation i mean instead of living in a big villa if u can manage to live in a 2 room flat i would suggest u not to leave right now. Qatar is good place and u try to manage ur sponsorship to some other co.
Banks are taking three months after surrender of credit card to give a clearance certificate. Dweller is right. Check with your bank
any similar problem with checks? What if some check has never been cashed, e.g. the deposit that you might get back from landlord, the occasional mis-written check that you had to destroy (that happens to me a lot!)?
You may also find that your bank in Qatar want to retain an amount of money against use of their credit card (if you have one issued in Qatar).
It's worth checking with your bank in Qatar and possibly surrendering the card in plenty of time to avoid the cash retention issue.
If your compnay management is good, then you may not be in a spot of bother and everything would be done fast, provided you have cleared your electicity, water and telephone dues as well as no dues letter from your local bank . Else final settlement may take upto 3 months even after you have submitted all the relevant stuff.
