Sponsorship change tops the list of grievances in NHRC annual report

DOHA: Requests for sponsorship change continue to top the list of grievances referred by low-income foreign workers to the National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) for redress.

The Committee forwards each sponsorship change plea to the Ministry of Interior for action since the ministry has the authority to change a worker’s employer without seeking the latter’s consent.

Figures available show that a little more than 30 percent of the sponsorship change pleas the NHRC forwards to the Interior Ministry evoke positive response.
