Religious Threads

So much hatred and spite is stirred up by these. I was under the illusion that mods were policing and deleting these on sight, but I am not seeing enough evidence of this right now. I have also noticed that religion can be injected into an innocent sounding thread a few posts in, and then it turns the whole topic toxic but still survives deletion.

QL goes through phases, and right now this is horrible phase being dominated by a group of usual suspects who will take any opportunity to bash their chosen foes. Why these usual suspects have evaded being banned I have no idea, but I guess we are all different. I have seen this before, and I have seen QL recover from it. But at this moment in time QL is like a war zone. I see threads condemning certain acts, but see the same mentality and conflict between posters that cause such events for real in non virtual worlds.

I sometimes wonder what would occur if posters in some threads were suddenly stood in front of each other. You know I am convinced there would be bloodshed.

One by one I am seeing quality QLers disappearing. And playground bullies taking their place. I am not going to leave QL, I am not even going to pledge never to comment on these religious threads ever again (because I can't help but point out how painful they are). But I do find myself spending less and less time on QL. And that I feel for certain, is because of the unrest caused by those who have to bring religion into everything, when they know full well what the outcome will be….. Conflict!!!

Why am I taking the time to write this…. I don't know I have plenty of nice stuff to do, I have no idea why I am wasting my breath (which I know I am doing) on such a poisonous subject. I guess the posts that will follow will clarify that for me.

You should have asked what chocolate I did not like lol

Any will do. It's a seasonsl thing for me too; I love Quality Street at Christmas and a Chocolate Orange. Spring time; Thorntons (anything), Summer, Turkish Delight with a Pimms and lemonade, Autumn, Flakes and Kit Kats (four fingered one).

Could put away a finger of fudge every day though :-)

Was thinking about you this morning and the Cabana Bar or lack off.

Have you tried a chocolate bar called Rockyroad. Not exactly the same but could act as a replacement. x

I'm not talking about him greeting, I'm questioning his post like the one I stated above and the one about death, that us quite clearly preaching. What is the need in a thread about jokes? There's a time and a place for such things, and that particular thread wasn't it.

By snessy• 22 Feb 2011 12:07

Saeedkan: I didn't ask you to comment on the MODs...I want to know what your thoughts are on bestman's post.

So QL is just like real life then.

By snessy• 22 Feb 2011 11:34

Saeedkan: I suggest you re-read that thread. Some of bestman's posts have been deleted, probably because the MODs agreed with the likes of me.

Also, what does this post by bestman suggest to you..."always start ur morning with As Salaam Aleikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh not with jokes"

If it is a healthy debate from both sides the situation wouldn't arise where one has to resort to personal attacks. Debating, keeping sensibilities in view I would say would go a long way in avoiding those situations.

jack...agree on everything you said, specifically...."If everybody agreed on everything there would be no comments... on the threads"...

By anonymous• 22 Feb 2011 11:08
anonymous

War Zone threads are very much important for the popularity and longevity of the site...

Also the depth of stupidity is also very important for the site for a person to feel superior and comment on it....

If everybody agreed on everything there would be no comments... on the threads

The site would become a information site like Wikipedia etc.

By snessy• 22 Feb 2011 10:58
snessy

Exactly, a light hearted thread which didn't require any preaching!

I wish if debates or bashings are based on knowledge, not just some articles from a biased source.

I would also like to add no forcing ones religious sentiments and beliefs down the throat of others but learn to be accepting of them too. And also to stop telling those who are not religious that they are doomed to hell.

By anonymous• 22 Feb 2011 10:30
anonymous

Could we please add, no bashing of those that have different opinions to the religious....

By Neytiri• 22 Feb 2011 10:28
Neytiri

Tented - i agree that neither this forum nor any like it is going to change the world and do completely agree that users need to moderate themselves.

I am sorry but I do seem to have missed out on what happened last night. I have not been in here seeing so much hate and ire. It sickens me no end.

By anonymous• 22 Feb 2011 10:24
anonymous

Agree with your comment. See my thread on nationality bashing, we could probably include religion and we would get the full package.

By Neytiri• 22 Feb 2011 10:16
Neytiri

tented - the problem is not debating. The problem is some people getting personal with their vicious comments and open threats. It is rather sickening to see and to read and also note that the administrators of this site are doing nothing about these users.

By Neytiri• 22 Feb 2011 10:13

I was going to post a topic on this issue later today but nice to know that there are others on this site who also feel as deeply & strongly as I do.

To some it may be just WORDS but the power of these WORDS have a very negative effect and not everyone here is as logical thinking to say that this is just another site so just ignore and walk away.

Some WORDS are painful and hurtful. Pity that people today have forgotten some of the finer sentiments of life.

By FathimaH• 22 Feb 2011 10:02

wish I had the willpower to stay out of them too..I do do try but then..*sighs* the sad thing is despite all the bazillion threads discussing religions no one seems to learn much.Do you see any positive debating and exchanging of interfaith dialogs? Such threads only exists for some lowlives to let out there pent up frustrations by attacking what they know is important to another. And if not a religion then a country, race, etc. bash bash bash =(

timebandit,

The world does not spin around us.

The same freedom of expression which allowed you to say what you think is the same that allows others to say what they think and that will come in all forms and shapes as this is a world wide open forum.

We should not use threatening or fear on those who are perceived as nasty as that are the same type of weapons they use.

Let people say what they want. You and nobody else cannot and should not control that.

It’s up to each one to deal with the comments the way they feel more comfortable.

If we can't stand them, the best way is to ignore!

By anonymous• 22 Feb 2011 09:51

Is there any unrest also for Qler's? hope not... have a nice day to all...

Religion is an integral part of life here so it is relevant in every thread. It doesn't necessarily turn a topic toxic.

By happygolucky• 22 Feb 2011 09:39
happygolucky

Never felt there was such an issue except on very rare occassions when things really got heated up (not in recent past for sure)... may be I just don't care or not many things around me bother me to unnecessarily waste time on it...or may be I actually have plenty of nice stuff to do, then just think I have...:)

By anonymous• 22 Feb 2011 09:35
anonymous

At the end of the day they are just words, however I agree with you religion should not be injected into threads where it is not relevant.
