Red Light Cameras - White Lines

Guys,

I know this has been posted to death but there are so many different variants of responses.

Any help on current affairs would be greatly appreciated.

At a set of signalled traffic lights today I noticed (sounds crazy but I'm not used to the automatic that moves itself) that the front end of my car was probably just over the first part of the white line. My wheels definitely weren't on it. I obviously nearly died at this point. The car was completely stationary.

I've heard some frightening stories about straddling the line by mistake and getting the dreaded QR6,000 fine.

Could someone please clear this up for me please and anyone else who is reading?

Front end on the line, not over the entire width.
Wheels most definitely behind the white line.

Is it done on a pressure pad system?

I guess any clarification would be good?

Many thanks in advance guys.

Regards,

Good day, everyone!

I need some clarification, please. I drove past a right turn red light around Hamad Hospital. I was coming from Lusail and heading towards Mesilla Metro. At the right turn from Hamad towards Mesilla, I noticed the light was red. I didn’t see any camera flash, but I haven’t been able to rest my mind since then. I recently paid a fine for a right turn red light violation in Lusail, and I can’t imagine having passed another one. Does anyone know if the right turn has cameras like those in Lusail?

All traffic cameras have video cameras. That's why if anybody tries to dispute the 6k fine, they just roll the video.

If you didn't cross it (or even cross it, get a flash, but retreat) you won't be fined 6k.

well, that white line has a function, why don't you stop your vehicle before the white line ?

They use inductive loops here. Look at the area before the white line and you can see lines / marks in the tarmac where these wires are buried in grooves.

For speed detection they use radar. Look where the camera is. The second device is the radar.

You need to cross the intersection and get flashed twice to win the QR. 6000 lottery.

If you just cross the white line but retreat, it's QR.500 as second prize.

if you got no flash, you'll be save :)

is on the far side of the white line. You have to cross completely over the line to trigger the camera. And as far as I know it takes 2 snaps about a second apart. So if you do get flashed but you stop immediately you will not get the fine.

classic "go test the limits". Normally with red light cameras for movement there is some grace period say a few seconds and for the stationary vehicles, like in your case, it must be a car length.

Thanks everyone, that's more reassuring. You just hear some horror stories that if you so much as touch the line with the front of your car you're done for.

Thanks a lot. Hope everyone has a nice weekend.

Shame my first post was a negative one!

You can check after couple of days if you have any fine concerning that but I can help you with my personal experience... I once was driving and trying to get through the green signal, unfortunately when I estimated the time between my driving speed and the moments that green light will turn red, it wasn't enough !!! so i pressed the brakes immediately but the car didn't stop, i surpassed the white line by at least one meter and the cameras flashed...so i reversed my car to be behind the white line.... fortunately no fines were imposed on my car...thanks God...so my guess is that as long as you stop on a red light then you will have no issues...

take care

Don't worry, if camera didn't flashed, or you stopped immediately, mean didn't went on red, won't fine you insha Allah. if any incident happen like this, you can directly go to Traffic dept; and can explain to them

Thanks Jaiditsol. Appreciate that.

I didn't see a flash but I also didn't notice myself creeping towards the line. That old too much on your mind syndrome.

I know for sure that my front tyres definitely didn't touch the line so hopefully that should answer that!?

Only been here 10 days and already got a parking violation and I literally nearly had a panic attack when I seen how close the line was!

Many thanks,

Your wheels need to cross the lines for it to flash. At the same time i've noticed plenty of times where my front tires have crossed the white line but no flash.. Sometimes I've seen the radar go ape shit and start flashing for no reason...

to get to the point, as long as you haven't been flashed, your safe!! Now go and test the limits and let us know :)
