Reality TV - a peep show?

watching the Survivor series and getting emotionally affected. I get angry when some of the contestants gets duped, eliminated or won a game...makes me eat my popcorns/chip faster...hehehe

Hell's Kitchen is kind of wishful thinkibng coz i do want to have my own restaurant...

Remember "Reality TV" is not exactly reality.

Editors carefully select the events and characters shown or it would be as dull as watching a webcam for an hour. Quoting people and events out of context/sequence can portray a more entertaining "truth", creating essential villains and heroes for a show.

Big Brother fameseekers even sign away their rights to deny untrue newspaper stories which are placed by the producers to boost ratings.

It's also a very cheap and easy way for producers to fill the TV schedule. As usual cheap and easy does not equate to quality.

And never understood why people watch it.

Yeah I'm on here a lot, because there is nothing to do in Doha. When I return home (for good), rarely would I enter a forum.

Well i dont like reality TV Shows.Big Brother and Co.is a big nonsense and it is boring to watch someone other how he goes to the toilet or while he is brushing his teeth.Normaly we should have better things to do.

In BB, it's like we're watching people watching tv...how sad lol.

when i worked in the uk everyone was watching BB in the office....

so i tried it... i am not being sarcastic but the banality of it helped me sleep really well.

i am with azilana - my real life is filled with people who are a million times more interesting that the silly contestants.

i watched a little of Africa BB once and that was more interesting due to the dynamics of different countries

if i watch telly i want good drama or comedy or a documentry .... stupid people...how boring

I like watching Reality T.V. Shows like Amazing Race, Fear Factor, Survivor and that show building a new house for 7 days (I forgot the title) simply because I want to know how people can really go to WIN!

How people can be very different to one another in a certain situation. I wanted to know how I would react if I am in their shoes and I can actually be a critique without hurting them. (lol)

It’s always interesting to know one’s journey in life even it’s only just a chapter so I could compare my life on how am I living it. Sometimes, I can see myself in them and that’s the moment I know my life better or should say they are in some way a mirror of me in that particular scene!

Though, I am watching them, I’m all for my privacy of my life and the privacy of the people around me, I don’t need actually a recognition of my existence because I already know I am existing ;-)

And I bet the glory of those people participating in any reality tv shows is to test their GUTS!

people wanna know about others.. while they havnet understood themselves better

they try to peek into others bedroom and stuffs, lend their ears to steal a talk or two while their own personal life is a big tragedy. some people are just like that. reality shows take advantage of this human behaviour. everyone wants to know about the final out come. its fascinating than a movie coz no know one knows wat hapnes at the end.. same are shows like amercan idol. somebody's gonna win and we are fascinated to watch who win and how they win..

we all have our own personal 'dramas', so is it escapism to watch others ...

I'm losing it here :) I just wondered if anyone else had an opinion on all that reality stuff that is around.

I think it may be better to talk about it over a coffee in August :D

Back in my country, one of the tv station (ABS-CBN)started a version with movie & teevee actors/actresses/singers are the characters.

I know a lot of my countrymen here watches is as we have that Filipino/TFC cable here in Doha. Even in our office, they talk about it.

My life's already a drama on it's own...so i find it too shallow to watch people make fun of themselves. Maybe I'm in denial...hehehe

I forget I'm now 2 hours behind Doha and even so! it's 2.00 a.m. here!

and they ALL say what crap BB is. I don't watch it, never have, unless hit on the station whilst surfing the TV channels and then moved on.

The 'what a lot of rubbish that is' people were able to talk me through the up to date news on BB !!

So who's watching it? and who is in denial !

I haven't watched any BB shows but I heard/read a lot about them.Kind of stupid, in my opinion, as some people would want to be like fishes in an aquarium for a price.

the jerry springer show is hilarious but I know it's scripted. But still funny...lol

I don't have a job in Doha, and so in the first few days I was there I found YouTube (never looked at it before, but someone sent me an e-mail with a YouTube link)

I was totally fascinated with being able to watch, listen and save clips of singers, bands, or whatever from way back to today!

I think my thread is a bit confusing lol

I really wanted to have a beef about the reality shows

Just to see videos of my fave singers and check out my teen daughter's fave band "Good Charlotte"...lol

1. Never. The sad fact about BB is the fame they achieve after the show ends. Such talent sitting in a house all day drinking, flirting, tanning, talking shite, and well sleeping..it's actually quite offensive!!
