11 weeks old topic. I wonder why it is raked again.I saw a QLer posting something on similar lines about why Indian ladies smell. A few facts - Prior to Mughal Queen Noorjahan who created the rose 'attar'(a kind of perfume), use of perfume was very common in India. The main reason was spiritual purpose. For this reason incense and perfume like sandalwood, rose, jasmine etc. were offered while worshipping and also smeared on body. After the advent of soaps, these rituals were only limited to prayer time or special religious occasions.

In Qatar the humid climate may be the reason for sweating and body odour (ofcourse not limited to Indians alone) and hence the use of perfume becomes neccessary. The usage of french perfume is not popular amongst most Indians and some even associate the perfume with being irritating, allergic and increasing odour pollution. Indians maintain a healthy hygiene and taking a bath is an essential routine because of religious reasons also. If you have an extremely sensitive nose than I suggest you gift perfumes to those who smell bad.

hey marc... its really not good to post things like this. we indians dont resist this kind of comments. if u have any personal things as per novita u can ask them .. so that they can realise .. instead ...u said some of the indians .. where u are mentioning abt a small group of people... tell me onething when otehr nationalities they smell good..may be u too smell good... it doesnt mean that u have the good smell without perfumes...

If u feel like ur coworkr is smelling bad ,,, on any occassion give him a perfume .... and tell him why dont u try this ... where there will be no hard feelings between u both...

DONT talk abt people who cant afford for such things...

I quickly went up to a very close indian friend of mine and asked him this question out of curiosity and his reply was something like this for you.. Marko Chood, I am sure the indian understand wat that means lol, after giving it a serious thought i was trying understand since when did communities have a smell code?

I work at a security company here, and its hard for us to maintain our sniffer dogs, perhaps i can get you a job. You will be given special training to sniff stinky corrupt a-s-s-e-s.

See Marko Chood, its not wise to write something so offensive abt any community and seeking a good response. First you should get your nostrils cleaned and then smell your self.

Indian's are known to be the most hardworking, talented, multi-tasked, cooperative, dedicated people - The same goes for Nepalis, Egyptians, Indonesians,Filipinos and so on. All those people that work in the scorching sun adding thier sweat and blood give the fragrance of Progess and development to this country.

God bless all Mankind..

Who said: “All Indians are Bad”? I went through entire thread and didn’t find anything like that. Marco asked what is that smell that Indians have. Other try to find the right explanation for it. Is having karry smell Bad or Good, I don’t know. Somebody may even like this smell, why not? I personally cannot stand it, and you cannot blame it on me.

One of my friend loves garlic. But she never eats it before going to work, to a date, to the meeting or anything like that. She is fighting her desire, otherwise if she ate garlic all the time, she would smell garlic badly days and nights. In western culture having garlic smell is a bad style. But on my understanding, in Indian culture there is nothing wrong with having this KARRY (or whatever it is) smell. And nothing wrong with that, everybody have rights to do whatever they want. Unless it affects other people in a negative way...

By qatarisun• 27 Oct 2007 00:43
qatarisun

but it's true.. I am telling you ppl, i know it for sure.. it is the spice, I think it called KARRY ( or something like that),which they use in thier food, and which has very strong smell. And then this smell comes out the pore with sweat.. it's not a sweat itself, it is this spice which comes out with sweat. And even the walls absorb this smell..that's why the houses where they use this spice for cooking, these houses have the same smell... So you can say it's not people who smells it's this spice that they use...

such as..why do some people smell worse than others??? I have several officemates who have a rather offensive odor...wonder why???

...Instead of pinpointing a certain race...

Qatarisun..the spice you are thinking of it tumeric...and yes, it is a rather distinctive smell. Did you know tho..if you have joint pain and massage the joint area with tumeric mixed with olive oil, the pain will go away? course..then you have to deal with the smell..so you have to make a choice..

Martinez...you are correct about the washing..wouldn't say to do it twice tho..that strips the skin of the essential oils needed to protect it. What causes the smell is the bacteria that is allowed to grow in the perspiration under the armpits and groin area..That's why deodorants aren't just smell good stuff..they have an antibacterial agent in them, also.

What I don't understand is why some folks just have to keep on stirring up the race issue...People smell...they work, they sweat and some have medical issues that can't be helped no matter what. so...why point the finger at a race?? to say that this thread isn't offensive is to not give us credit for having a brain that thinks, marco...what you posted WAS offensive... Just a bit beyond my comprehension...AND..what's with the 80% BS????

Air Force One arrives at Heathrow and President Bush strides to a warm and dignified reception from the Queen. They are driven in a 1934 Bentley to the edge of central London where they change to a magnificent 17th century carriage hitched to six white horses.

They continue on towards Buckingham Palace waving to the thousands of cheering Britons; all is going well. Suddenly the right rear horse lets fly with the most horrendous earth shattering fart ever heard in the British Empire and the smell is atrocious, both passengers in the carriage must use handkerchiefs over their noses.

The fart shakes the coach but the two dignitaries of State do their best to ignore the incident.

The Queen turns to President Bush, "Mr. President please accept my regrets... I am sure you understand there are some things that even a Queen cannot control."

George Bush, always trying to be "Presidential," replied: "Your Majesty, do not give the matter another thought... Until you mentioned it, I thought it was one of the horses."

The real reason behind Indians smelling bad or anyone smelling bad is this.

Sweat by itself does not have any bad smell as it is generated. But when sweat is retained in the body for more than a day...it starts to spread its smell.

No matter how long u take a shower...its of no use if u do not use a soap with scrub (it is sold in any grocery and u get it if u ask for LOOFAH).

Scrubbing under arms and pelvic areas is very important as the human body by itself has folds in these areas which are more pronounced for sweat accumulation.

And this needs to be done two times when a shower is taken. (i.e) scrub ur body twice with soap when in shower. Definitely TWO times...trust me.

Do this and then any type of smell is gone forever.

Note that if u take a shower like this and even run in the gym..sweating like hell...u will never generate smell as i told u...sweat cannot become smelly until it is retained for a long time. U can do it if u dont beleive me..u will be amazed by the results.

I have already changed around 20 ppl here in Doha and they are thankful for me for teaching them this important but more often unspoken mistake.

I appreciate Marko for bringing this topic on...and hope problems of many smelly ppl should be solved...ofcourse..thats why we OLers are here for...to give help when needed.

a particular one, I don't remember the name.. and it DOES come out of the pores, it's known... I had to deal with indians at some point of my life, and a lot of them have this smell, some of them less, almost insensible, other have very strong one...Once I was going to rent an apartment (it was in another country)...I walked into some building, and flew away at the same moment: the whole building had this very strong smell. As I found out, most of the apartments in this building were occupied by indians. The smell was coming out of the walls...

but you can not decide that this....UNIQUE...smell is related to Indians only. It involves different nationalities like Pakistan, Bangladesh, SriLanka...etc.

Let's not consider it a bad smell. Let's just say it is a 'unique' smell that we/other people are not used to it.

After some digging, I found that it comes from the amount of coconut oil they use on their bodies & hair. I actually went & bought some of this oil, used it on my hair, just to make sure, and what do you know? I started smelling....Indian :-)

Some few of these people don't use coconu oil & prefer French perfumes, and they start to smell the way our noses are used to.

A lot of people are also not used to that special Oud/Sandal fumes & perfumes that the Gulf people use also.

Well smell is not a matter of nationalities but a matter of personal hygiene. In my office, it is a mixture of different nationalities and what I observed is that those who smell are those who doesn't take a bath regularly and those who are wearing the same clothes they wore the other day. Why they are wearing the same clothes the next day? Well, they want to prolong the life of their clothing to the agony of others they interact with each day. Yeah, I'm not making this up. They want to prolong the life of their clothing.

Everyone has become so sensitive nowadays, I don't find the writer as a wind up merchant. He's just asking a genuine question. Personally, I didn't know that coconut oil or other oils can cause a smell...but now I do. So maybe he's wondering why some of Indian people he met smelt bad...I don't find anything wrong with it. He isn't implying that the entire race smells bad (atleast I hope not). Just relax people.

carry a perfume with you always or load yourself with perfumes so that you will not smell others like how some of the females do

t_coffee: yes the oil they use may be the cause, but also the specific spices used also affect it...that's why not only indians smell at times. For example, any person who would eat alot of garlic or something like that alot would smell bad when he/she sweats, regardless of nationality.

Stealth: I don't understand why u were so aggressive. If u read my post I did mention that they were in the sun all day so i KNOW what that work conditions are harsh for them. Noone said they're expected to smell like perfume and look all pretty and neat, their job doesn't allow it.

Guys, just forget this thread and move on...

The reason why you think you smell other people with bad odour could be that your mouth is very very close to your nose!

It's a joke Marko. Cheers!

smell is a very subjective thing, indians like sandal, musk, amber, coconut oil, etc.....

i hate the french perfumes...

i thing everybody should wear neutral deodarants to work.

And one more thing see this gay's profile and he is only 2 hrs old on QL, WTF he came with such personal insult to certain community? People, carefully watch last 3-4 days posts and you will come to know the fact. Some jerks are having 'Insult Da Indians at any cost' on their agenda constantly.....

some of my colleagues had complaints about a norwegian who would come for some work in our office and would stink so bad that they would stay a few meters away from him.

Now does that mean all Norwegians smell the same way?

Yesterday I was on the Corniche too and the only smell that bothered me was the smell of cigarettes and smokers...yes smokers do smell very badly....probably you are the one who was walking ahead of us and smoking like a steam engine...

COrnellian it could be that their duty has not yet finished isnt it?

Do they to sit under a/c's and do their work or are they under the host sun sweating it out and if one expects them to smell like someone who has put loads of perfume is next to impossible

Spice has got nothing to do with smell other nationalities also use spice but some communities are useing coconut oil on their body n hair may be thats the smell he is talking about

I have alot of Indian friends and they don't smell at all!

But yesterday I was at the corniche bidding thing and there were ALOT of construction workers, etc and they did smell bad. I'm guessing it has to do with them working all day long in the sun and sweating, perhaps they don't shower as often as we do because of they're underprevileged (for example u might have 10 labours sharing the same bathroom or something), and it also has to do with all the spices they eat. That's just my theory.

Hey Markooo2000000000016,

The number of O's and 0's in your id speaks for itself. Maybe you should have a checkup with the ENT docs to check if your nose has some shit lodged in it. Thats why it happens only to you. By the way which part of the Indians did you smell? Hope its not the aboral end which you are probably used to doing in your country. Anyway keep away from smelling peeple's Asses. (Pun intended. Take it easy buddy.)
