Question about UK

By qasimilyas

If someone from UK can answer this question please. Instead of taking a flight from Edinburgh to London, I am thinking of going by train but online search brings out so many rail/train companies. Which one is the best? (which of them is the harry potter one :D)
Thank you.

To book a train I think it's easiest to just try looking on the national rail website (www.nationalrail.co.uk).

Or if you are after cheap fares, try megatrain.co.uk which has some quite cheap fares to some places, don't know if they go to scotland or not.

Hope this helps

Thank you all for the information. So I will simply take the plane. How helpful this website is, only if religious fights were not going on here all the times :)

You may see some nice scenery, but you'd be better off taking time for a proper sight-seeing trip rather than watching it fly by at 100mph+ !!!

Or you could take the National Express coach trip and marvel at all of our beautiful motorways! :D

Go to http://www.thetrainline.com.

I agree that the trains are totally rubbish but if it's scenery gazing you're after, you'll get plenty of that.

Try booking from station to station rather than the complete journey. It's sometimes cheaper that way too.

Good luck:)

So should I leave this idea, or as Timbo said, take GNER or virgin first class? Actually I am asking this to know if the train passes through any beautiful sceneries and coastal areas or it's not just worth it?

Thanks.

and im flying from Bahrain to Heathrow and then flying up to Leeds.

Cant be bothered with all that twatting about with the tube to kings cross then another train nightmare up to leeds...Easier to fly. Its a code share flight by Gulf air, operated by BMI.

My advice is to take the shuttle (flight).. Its easier. The trains take too long..Also the train fares can be extremely expensive.

I have taken the sleeper train from Edinburgh to london and it is great.

The best rail service on that route is GNER (great north eastern railways) they are fast and always on time

Rest assured, if Harry Potter HAD taken a British train, he would have ended up on Hogwarts' council estate, drinking cheap cider on the park bench and starting fights with grannies!

Sorry mate, but it's a long accepted fact by the British that ALL of our train companies are crap! lol

[Doh! beaten to it by Supernurse!]

They're cramped, smelly and over-priced. Depending on the time of day, you'll either be crushed in with commuters, left standing in the hallway by the toilet door, or getting dribbled on by some loud obnoxious drunkard.

If you can afford it, go 1st class with Virgin - but it's not cheap!

If you want to book tickets or check timetables, try www.nationalrail.co.uk - if you need any more help, feel free to ask :)
