Qtel offers BlackBerry service for Hala users
Qtel’s BlackBerry service has now been opened to pre-paid (Hala) customers in Qatar.
To coincide with the launch of BlackBerry service in the pre-paid segment, Qtel is offering a reduced activation fee of QR100 and free rental of a BlackBerry handset for two months.
Qtel has provided BlackBerry services for more than two years in Qatar, which it said “is supported by the most reliable network and some of the fastest Internet options.”
CEO Dr Nasser Marafih
To avail of the service, customers with existing BlackBerry handsets can send an SMS activation message to 92550.
New customers who wish to access an advanced BlackBerry model can drop-in at a Qtel Shop.
During the promotion (first eight weeks) period, customers can enjoy browsing, chatting and sending e-mails with BlackBerry for no rental fee. Thereafter they will be charged at the rate of QR35 a week.
Customers can top-up their service using standard Hala scratch cards and e-vouchers, and – so long as they maintain a balance of QR100 or more – can have full access to the wide range of options provided by BlackBerry.
“The launch of the Hala option for BlackBerry provides more choice and flexibility in the market, so that people can opt to use their BlackBerry whenever they need it.”
“Qtel’s research revealed that young people who want to deploy BlackBerry solutions for social networking and chatting showed particular interest in the Hala option,” Qtel said.
Qtel Group CEO Dr Nasser Marafih said, “Qtel has been a trailblazer for BlackBerry services in the region, building upon our advanced Internet infrastructure. We are now pleased to provide a pre-paid Hala option for everyone in Qatar, to offer the widest access alongside the most reliable service.”
As the leading provider of BlackBerry and mobile services, Qtel has worked hard to deliver the latest models to the market. Most recently, it was among the first companies to offer the new BlackBerry Bold 9700, which provides a ‘stylish and secure’ way to stay connected and enjoy a variety of entertainment options.
Customers who want to learn more about the BlackBerry can speak to experts at Qtel’s communications centres at Villagio and Al Wakrah.

How do i activate?
I am ignorant... lol
in its website qtel states its 10 mb for shahry..not sure for hala..
is it enough?
Monthly charge is there for Postpaid (Shahry) i.e QR 125/month.
Weekly is better in case of Prepaid (Hala) since otherwise amount of QR 140/month would be deducted at one go from prepaid balance which is not so good.
Still the charges are high, hope vodafone stirs up compertition in BB.
Why cant they set a monthly charge instead of a weekly one?
good you told me so i can upload virus and get your BB infected.
be prepared (",)
the pin number so i can send you msgs at 1am just to keep you awake.
I will activate my BB today :-)
