Qatar Airways Takes Proactive Precautionary Measures Over Health Concerns

Qatar Airways has issued a precautionary advisory notice to all passengers originating from any one of Qatar Airways’ three US gateway cities travelling to Doha and beyond.

In the interests of the safety and wellbeing of all our passengers and crew, Qatar Airways has decided to take into consideration concerns expressed by authorities around the world over current health fears.

Passengers should be reassured that modern aircraft have very advanced air filtration systems which ensure a high level of air quality despite the confined environment they are travelling in.

In response to the current outbreak of swine flu in Mexico, Qatar Airways is adopting certain preventive steps.

The airline is working closely with local health authorities in the State of Qatar and international organisations to ensure the most practicable precautionary steps are taken with immediate effect.

Qatar Airways requires that all operating crew wear masks on flights from the United States – namely daily services from New York, Washington DC and Houston.

The airline has taken additional mandatory measures for all 1,100 flight deck and 3,400 cabin crew to be vaccinated against influenza to limit the risk of contamination to passengers and staff.

Passengers on Qatar Airways’ flights originating from the US are being issued with masks upon boarding and advised to wear them inflight.

The same policy is being enforced on selected connecting flights from Doha International Airport. In addition, all Qatar Airways’ customer contact staff in the United States and at Doha International Airport are required to wear masks.

Manufacturers of pork products are pretty annoyed that it's caused swine flu as well, since people (being inherently stupid as they are) are immediately linking it to pigs and stopping buying pork products.

I think calling it Mexcian flu is really offensive too...

if it broke out in Israel and people called it Israeli plague...then we would all be called anti-semetic....

GodFather.

Funny enough Israeli authorities have banned the use of word Swine Flu as it against their Religious belief to use such word, and it has been replced by Mexico Flu..

Will change the name of the Virus make the Virus go away?

Agreed.

I'm just getting peeved with all the false crap that's being spread round the internet about swine flu. People need to chill the heck out. It's times like this that I hate the internet.

But I shouldn't take my frustrations out on people who are genuinely trying to prevent it spreading. Thank you for putting my straight Novi :)

MoH have also advised postponement of all non-essential trips to countries where cases have been reported, including US and UK.

All seems a little OTT if you ask me.
