Qmedia applauded for Corniche event
After reading the numerous threads and comments over the past week regarding the Doha 2016 bid launch it was clear that most people thought that it wasn't particularly well organised, so I was a little surprised to read the following in today's Peninsula;
The gala function held on Doha Corniche to officially launch Qatar’s bid for 2016 Olympics has received wide acclaim from within Qatar and abroad.
“Qatar Media Services (QMS) takes pride from the fact that it was completely in charge of all aspects of this event. It was heartening to note that the local firms which participated in organizing many of the items presented in the launch have proved their ability and capacity to present events of a very high standard and quality,” a press release said.
I'd be interested to know who exactly contributed to this 'wide acclaim'. It obviously wasn't any of the people who found themselves standing around not able to see what was going on. At least we know QMS are to blame for it all!

Funny how it was another 'Q' company that did it all huh? Then you see them congratulated in national newspaper... hmmm, not suspicious at all and of course not monopolized.... IMHO
I keep wondering who writes this stuff!
Maybe the officials and dignitaries that sat in the VIP area and had an unobscured view of the proceedings enjoyed it. But for anyone unfortunate enough to be on the Corniche the event was woefully organised.
Aside from the fact that no allowance was made for spectators, and that the venue and chosen event style were hopelessly mismatched, days later the corniche was still littered with bits of staging, lighting rigs, cabling etc.
I get the feeling that QMS is just praising itself because its tired of hearing the complaints. If it had gone well they would have no reason to publish a story about how well it had gone, would they?
