QAWS Mascot returns from Kilimanjaro!!
Last week, volunteer Carl Roberts, and mascot Ted Bear climbed Mount Kilimanjaro to raise money for Qatar Animal Welfare Society (QAWS).
After 4 days of treking, they reached Uhuru Peak at 07.20am Friday morning. It was a chilly minus 12 degrees so after a couple of quick photos, there was no hanging around!! Back down they came on onto a flight back to Doha.
They arrived back yesterday and all of the photos can be found on Ted Bear's profile on Facebook and the official Kilimanjaro Climb for QAWS page as well.
A massive thank you to iloveqatar.net, Vodafone Qatar, Qatar Pet Relocators and all of the QAWS supporters who sponsored Carl & Ted on their adventure. And a special thanks to Carl for looking after Ted and bringing him home safely!
Keep an eye out for Ted around Qatar - you never know where he might pop up or what his next adventure might be!
Thank you for clarifying, Xena.
just so you know.... Even though we have been told over and over again, it take money to make money, we never have any money over to put into events as our running costs are high and everything we do for fundraising is always sponsored.
Bearing in mind that some places would rather give items than money - we have to find a use for those items and usually that means auctioning them off to get the money for QAWS use.
The man who did this trip was sponsored to do it, and the money came to us - We didn't pay anything out of the QAWS coffers to sponsor this trip.
Everything from the clothing, Qatar flag, flight, accomodations - were paid for.
Carl Roberts, who was planning on doing this trip for years, but finally found a charity to help - gave all the money he was intending on spending on the trip to QAWS after everything else had been sponsored. Other people then sponsored amounts towards the climb which came to QAWS also.
This was not only a fundraising event, but also an awareness event, which sometimes is more worthwhile than the funds we raise.
And yes, the people you mentioned also helped with clothing and phones.
how is a hike supposed to raise funds for QAWS, enough to cover the tour cost to Tanzania & beyond and yet add on to QAWS's kitty bag?
And why would this hike to Kilimanjaro help QAWS located in Qatar a country where the average local is a billionaire?
Assuming the trip was sponsored by iloveqatar, vodafone etc. wouldn't these funds be better used to facilitate QAWS work in Qatar?
