Qatarliving movie club
I'm a real movie buff and I wanted to share that enthusiasm with others, instead of going to the movies on my own. So, I applied to join the QatarLiving Movie Club.
I was rejected, and whoever rejected didn't even have the good courtesy to explain why, despite me asking.
So, my question is - is the movie club elitist ? do you have to be in the 'in-crowd' to join ? why reject people who want to join in and contribute ? what's the big deal ? Perhaps its better to keep away from this strange group.
Anyway, I've heard Iron Man is really good - anyone fancy going with me ?
no way... usually it's reall all way around: you meet a person who you have a certain image of, and he/she is different.. but what i am saying is: at least to make sure that you do not dislike this person from the begonning..as i have said.. if the person is a clear sexist i wouldn't like to meet this person at the frist place, no matter how good/bad/different she/he is in the real life...I hope it's clear...
ok.. any way, this policy DOES have a sense, specially since we all know how many weirdos and stalkers are around..and again, i personally don't want to feel that I am an "escort lady" for someone who simply dosn't have any other choice. I prefer to meet people who took some time and put some efforts in trying to know me, and they want to go to the movies with ME not with some "escort servoce".. i hope it's also clear...
You cannot always expect the same person who keeps on posting here with his usual comments to be the exact same person you're most interested with. It rarely happens. Everywhere. Even in penpals, phones and such.

I prsonally would like to have an idea who I am going to go to the movie with. If the guy is clearly known as a ultrasexist for example, I personally would like to go to the movie with this person, or to sit around the same table or so… it is understandable, i guess...
it's not about quality or quantity.. it's about to get a sense that the person is more or less real, and the sense of his/her attitude... Post are not necessary should be deep, intelligent or philosophy… but at least you can get an idea about the attitude of the person. Sometimes good and funny blah-blah-blah is not too bad at all. And if you want something deeper, go ahead, create your own topic, share with us your world, teach us new things…but if not the first, not the second, and not anything else, then – what? To have QLers as a quantity for going to the movie, just because it’s not comfortable to go alone? Without really caring who is who? QL is not an ESCORT service for lonely souls ..to get friends sometimes you have to put some efforts in.. not just say: I want to be your friend for tonight, because I have nobody to go to the movie with.

i really dont understand why some of you people get offended when rejected from joining in certain groups? the rules are there for a reason. If you dont meet the requirements then better luck next time.
You HAVE to have your points to join in, you cant expect to be part of a QATARLIVING group if your not going to show the group managers that you are actually involved with QATARLIVING and contributing towards it. and scoring points is your way to prove it. also the quality of your comments show if your mature enough to be social with others, we are all here to have fun and help each other out through our experiences.
So stop whinning and start posting, be active and join in. :) that being said i'm not part of this movie group but i will still be going for QL movies after tomorrow woohooo! :)

you need to learn how to blablabla to qualify. I wonder here. Is the quality of QL contribution (threads and comments) is taken into consideratin or just the number of points?

....thanks for your explanation - you took the trouble to explain and I appreciate it. That said, you can see there's enough grumblings about 'The Policy'. I'm not sure you'll really know someone any better if they've posted 200 times over someone who's posted 50 times - until you actually meet them. I'm not upset about it - just sad you're missing my intelligent contribution.
Ah well....I guess all us rejects could go out and watch a movie together....

that's what the QL's idea is: to meet people on QL, TO GET KNOWING THEM OVER THEIR POSTS, and then NATURALLY to shift it to the real life...actually, i would say, the idea to meet in real life came later.. first people just were sharing their opinions on line...and then it came to the point of meeting in real..it's like you meet someone, who you know already, like almost your friend.. QL's gatherings are quite defferent from the meetings of banch of strangers, where no one knows who is who... so again, just try to be more active, let people know you.. and then sure you are welcome to the club!

Once you start enjoying the QL you will automatically get the points.

Fortunately or Unfortunately the Qatar Movie Club has become an extension of QLSG. Thus it has become active again.
However, I have yet to read a review of one the films that have been seen by the Club.
fai077's, King's and QT's points are real reason why you have been rejected. QL has its POLICY.. and we have just to stuck with it.. that's it.. it's not discussable: why this and why that.. that's how it is... QL is a virtual world, and before meeting someone in real life guys and specially gals at least have to have a sense of who they are going to meet and with who they are going to go to the movies, or to the bowling, or to the bar... it is understandable.. so do not be upset, just try to be more active, let QLers know what kind of person you are by posting your opinions, and i am sure soon you will get the invitation to this club!

unfortunately, i don't sit and comment needlessly to anyone...
reaching 200 points... i'm think it is such a hard task... esp. if i have to spend lots of time on commenting. so, i guess, i just have to read movie reviews somewhere else...

On the other hand, maybe the admin has just seen your comment and might consider changing the criteria of joining...

I wasn't given a reason so we can only speculate. However, from what you've just said, you have to prove that you like sitting in front of the computer and post lots of messages ?? I'd rather be out in front of people. Its a flawed criterion if the objective is to share views and experiences in person.

Guys, for everyone's best interest, the rules are the same as in the QLSG.
Acceptance into the Movie Group will be determined by the time period you have been a member of QL, and the number of points you have accumulated.
Please don't expect approval if you have been a member for longer than two weeks, but have less than 100 points and/or your performance on main forum has been creating problems.
Points = posts, and posts = insight into your character. Your input on the General forum determines your status within the group.

reading your profile I guess that you did not meet the minimum of 200 points to join the gatherings and after being a member for more than a year you got few points which mean .. you are not active on board.
I know irrysa, the group manager and she is one sweet lady indeed ... she won't reject your subscription without valid reasons ...
