Qatari banks ordered to cut service fees

The Governor of Qatar Central Bank (QCB) has issued a notification to the country's banks asking them to reduce their service charges or face stern action.

According to the Qatar-based The Peninsula daily, sources close to Al Sharq reported on Friday that the QCB has ordered that the service charges for close to 100 banking services and products to be brought down to “moderate” levels.

Some of these include basic services required by the common customer on a day-to-day basis

A good move from Qatar central bank. Many banks are charging it's customers for silly things like account statement...

i hope they also look at the charges for requesting 6-month bank statement. i wonder why banks has to charge 150 (Mashreq), 200 (Al-Khaliji) just for piece of paper. You need to pay everytime you require a bank statement for visa application or sponsoring a family member to come over to Doha.

gadarene, Why are you so pessimistic and distrustful? What benefits HSBC will have from your few bucks! I doubt if HSBC will open account of someone like you! You don’t even trust words of central bank’s governor... which world you live in? and where have you come from?

Its about time now that the bank to realise a "win-win" should works well to win customers confidence in long term business. Ironically the situation now are banks have the upper say on all things which includes services charges, never the customers. A healthy competition on business ethics should be incourage between banks

hopefully "stern action" will mean more than just words Mr.Governor!...i think we can all agree that the single, biggest culprit in this matter would have to be the great HSBC by a long shot...

want to put money into your own account? it will cost you,but why should i pay you for giving you my own hard-earned money?

Sir,you can use the ATM...but it will take one working day to credit the amount,so if i put it in on thursday, the money will come to my account on sunday, until which time HSBC will roll my money for their benefit...

what a bank! gotta love it eh?!
