Qatar Airways will enter the Australian market with the launch of Melbourne flights on December 6, it emerged on Thursday.

Qatar Airways will begin operating three weekly services using a new Boeing B777-200 Long Range aircraft to be delivered to the airline later this year.

The operations are set to become daily from early in 2010, following the delivery of a second long range Boeing, company official said.

Qatar airways are expanding for prestige only. As long as they don't rack up a loss its ok for them.

It is too late to penetrate Australian Market as Emirates and Etihad had done their best role there already. I would rather stick with Emirates for the Kangroo route.

Another one, I pretty believe that Singapore is a WRONG stopover chosen by Qatar Airways. They did not learn the lesson from Gulf Air whose had to close the station twice due to bad loads from Singapore Market and the filling of fuel and catering rather expensive in Singapore. They should be considering Thailand or Malaysia for their stopover instead. All QR is doing is to compete with those strong brand Airliners instead to find the best route that will enhance their bottom line with minimal competition!

Its been in the pipeline for 3 years. I thought they would never deliver on their promises.

emirates is ok. they have just recently come to their senses with pricing. Over the 2 years, their prices were exorbitant

Yeah. With those ugly trams and overhead wires scarring the city.

Suburbs are ok (better than sydney on average). City is dead ugly.

Great news for the travellers , flight will have a technical hope at singapore. I really doubt the uplift and revenue.

Would still prefer Emirates.

Ok, now I am totally confused... wait a minute, I am in Qatar and it’s the 5 star airline, so nothing abnormal. I guess we'll have to see then, as usual.

Will take 20 hours and yeah Melbourne is the best.

Why did they not declare this when I was trying to decide to either go home or back to the in laws in Yorkshire for Christmas ;-(

"Direct" flights may have a stop with no change of planes. ("Non-stop" is obvious.)

As it's a 'Long Range' aircraft I'm guessing it's direct.

Will it be an 18 hours direct flight or will it have a stopover?

Complete and objective information is expected from 5 stars airlines ;)
