QATAR real estate for foreigners

I figured out that rental rates are pretty high in Qatar. So I would be eager to know if foreigners can invest in Qatar real estate. I would be looking for a villa or so. What will a decent villa cost me in Doha in $$ values. I heard earlier foreign investment in real estate is restricted to Pearl Properties, at the same time I heard the real estate business is booming and Qatar is soon becoming the richest country when per person income is concerned.

qataris usually follow UAE trends as well as laws regarding property etc. purchase of property be it flats or villas is very complicated and laws tend to change abruptly.similarly charges, maintanence ,visa etc get increased without prior notice and at shocking rates so frankly buying any type of property here is very risky!

Your comments were very helpful. I guess I will do a bit more research before plunging in.

It's very difficult to say. The current shortage of housing is keeping upward pressure on rents - and, hence, resale values too.

However, I'm uncertain what effect the large scale projects currently in progress will have on prices once they are completed. I'm referring here to the Barwa projects in particular as they will add thousands of living units to the market in the next few years. It's difficult to say if the rate at which expats are arriving (and keeping pressure on demand) will be higher than the number of units becoming available.

I, personally, will not invest here. I think the probability of the bubble bursting is quite high. Although, if you're in the market for 5 years only, you may get some return. Longer than that I think is very risky.

Thank you Boer, Could you give me some insights on how wise it would be to invest in a villa in doha if i want to resell after 5 years.

Also check out www.dohamap.info to see where these areas are.

I guess the next logical step would be to contact the estate agents and find out what's for sale. I think you might be disappointed with the availability and prices, but it's worth a try.
