Now i know tht doha hasnt a lot of motor-heads A.K.A petrol-heads.... and especially here on QL...but anyways....for any motor heads out there this is good news...

i know this is old news..but i read on yesterdays paper tht plans are on to setup wat is termed as a motor city.... the project is taken up by barwa and it will be located in the area after the drag race circuit off east industrial area .....

the motor city will have including car and truck and motor cycle showrooms, accesories shops, driving schools, vechile inspection centers, cafe's, garages, service centers and even a huge truck parking area.....

there are plans also set for linking the drag race circuit and also the drift racing ring to the city...(a petrol heads wet dream!)..... so wat u guys think?

now we are on the subject...truth be told...i guess the sport isnt promoted as it shud and cud be.. (have seen how its done in bahrain and kuwait....wayyy better! and more crowds!)

but nonethless......im hopeful......with now the cross country rally championship being held for the first time in the middle east this year in doha....(and hopefull some more special stages for us to watch some dakar spec rally bred cars and trucks.....) hopefuly its gonna be a good season for us....jus like the good ol days...(remember saeed al hajri's porsche 911 turbo rally special zooming past the toyota building grounds...??!)

anyways......any news on this years gcc doha round of drag race championship ???

Great to see such progressive thinking. This is great news and can only further this sport! The race track and the new complex will complement one another and serve to bring new racers and spectators as well.

You really said that as proof of your street cred? Please. I was at all the drag races last year for my website http://www.eatmyink.com/ and they were off the hook. Eighth mile world records (not bullshit, for real) in the 3.50s were set in Pro Exreme, the class KH drives. Cars and bikes were all running at or near record pace for their classes and cars were bursting into giant fireballs, if that's the kind of thing you like. All this at a great facility for FREE. Try to get that at Santa Pod or any NHRA race.

I am a "petrol head" - why else would I drive a souped up KIA capable of running sub 15 secs :O)

Having been to drag races at Santa Pod and USA, my point was that the ambiance and the "real" cars were missing in Doha - apart from the Al-Anabi Racing ..
