May the roof above us never fall in, and may the friends below never fall out!
Half of my family live in the Cayman Islands in the caribbean. The Caymans were hit by a strong hurricane a few years back and the damage was extensive. Hundreds of homes were destroyed and there was no water or power for weeks. Women and children were evacuated to the States and it was four months before they were able to return.
I know how awful the effects of flooding can be and the heartbreaking experience of losing all your possessions. However, you are right, in comparison to natural disasters elswehere in the world where people die, it is a small thing.
Anyway, to all my English friends, time to stiffen the upper lip and recall the spirit of the blitz. I hope the water recedes quickly and life gets back to normal.

didn't mean to hijack - got a bit carried away - apologies
the above is why I haven't made a big deal about the UK - I guess we are lucky by comparison.
Although I DO feel sorry for those in England who are still 10 foot under water and without any fresh water.
I saw crates of bottled water being handed out on the news, 2 crates per family. Some of our newer guests in England were loading up their vans, pushing away a news correspondent saying 'ASDA said 2 crates per person'.
grrrrrrr
As long you shake my hand and not hold it as you walk away. I'm OK with it.

Nice to meet you too :-) lol. It seems you are in the sensitive kinda of mood today eh? I think after yesterday i have met you like 3 times?
I also believe some part of China is in an emergency state due to flooding and somewhere in Pakistan as well? Would have to check my facts here, but definitely an area of China is very badly hit.
I think the levels are going down a bit now, but it isn't so much the rain where I live in Bedford (on the Great Ouse) it's more to do with the rivers flowing down to the sea. Haven't had much rain at ALL here, but still the river rose up and roads were closed. Apparently it takes the waters 3 days to get from one river through to the next.
Some idiot here decided to swim across the Ouse yesterday and drowned in the cross current. Very sad, but hey! who in there right mind ......
The biggest problem hitting most of those who are stranded is the lack of drinking water and ANY fresh water to flush loos, wash etc. and they may have another 2 weeks before things are back to normal.
Meantime people are dying of the heat in Athens, Hungary and all over south-east Europe!
sigh
How is the UK? The pictures on TV look pretty desperate. Is there any respite in sight from the rain?

although you had me worried with that title - I thought it was going to be another go at the guidelines. EEEEEEEEK
I agree with you entirely! I do believe I know more people in Doha in 3 months than I know in my home town here in UK over 3 years! :o(
