Qatar to build world's biggest hospital
Read about it in TOI today morning. It says the news was published in an Arabic Daily. I wonder how far this hospital would sustain itself to cover its running expenses. I have heard most of the latest medical equipments at Hamad are under-utilised at present. Moreover we have the new Wakra Hospital now.
Has anyone read about this in Al Sharq?

Qatar is reportedly planning to construct the world's largest hospital in Doha by 2020.
The hospital's construction is to be completed two years ahead of the FIFA World Cup, which the Gulf country is set to host for the first time.
According to local Arabic daily Al Sharq, the blueprint, budget and land for the hospital to be named after the country's Emir Shaikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani are ready.
Work on the massive project is expected to be launched soon, it added.
According to Gulf News, sources revealed that the hospital would also be the largest in the world in terms of accommodating patients and the range of treatment specialities.
"The hospital, expected to be the most advanced in the world, will be an architectural marvel and will be part of a plan by Qatar to dazzle the international community when it hosts the World Cup in 2022, just like it did in 2006 when it organised the Asian games," the sources said.

To make the country a medical hub they need to out-do the quality of medical services provided by some countries in south asia and make them affordable as well. We know to make it happen, specialist surgeons have to be hired full or part time...and such surgeons are always in demand all over the world.
Its fine if Qatar wants to do a bit of charity for people in the neighbouring countries but if it's deemed to be a commercially viable project, its difficult to believe that it would ever materialise.
If the hospital is needed, go ahead by all means.
Yeah they are expecting medical & educational Tourism... (People traveling to avail medical aid or education) from the neighboring gulf states.
This will become a success once the High speed Rail gets connected to neighboring countries.
This is much better investment than building the tallest tower. The Hitech machines will be used to give free treatment till the time there is heavy rush...
There have been cases of people insisting on being shifted from the splendid HMC to the US and then have been shell shocked to see the rundown hospitals in Houston... but there are better Docs in US... here mostly the expat docs are good... lol
Are you saying that GulfNews and TimesofIndia got it wrong ?

If I were the Emir, having serious kidney problems, the first thing I would do is build a world-class kidney center, so that I don't have to fly to the USA everytime I have a problem. Why doesn't he do it?
Locals go abroad, so it will be for the expats!
Turn key option with well known healthcare providers can actually be less costly, and offer brand name quality of service.
We need to bring in more sick expats for this to work and bigger diseases!
Government authorities had denied the news came up in few days ....that Qatar is building world biggest hospital
It's not true guys ...
for hospitality or just show-off, locals prefer going out of doha for treatment, lack of expertise & well-trained staff.
Judgment day knocking the door!
and we now have dukhan hospital too, as well as the aspire sports hospital, then theres Al Ahli, Doha Clinic.
i think somebody fooled them again. this is nothing but a game to create a giant cash cow project.
" well make for you the biggest hospital, and buy for you the best and most expensive machines and we'll leave after that. "
somebody somewhere heard "biggest, Best" and they said yes.
Its not the money and the quantity or the size of it but the quality of the services offered there that will say how good the hospital is
If it is not for the Guinness book of world records, I think Qatar has more than sufficient medical facilities to cater to the needs of its people, expats and visitors. What needs improvement is the level of competencies and services at these facilities, I thought.
Perhaps we will see a lot more local medical professionals doing the rounds at the new hospital
Biggest hospital in the world from such a small peninsula country...haha How ironic... Qatar is i think aiming too high about their country.. yes they can do it bcoz they have the money..but for God's sakes..prioritize first the labor system & the sponsorship abolishment. Big hospital does not make sense if Quality people let alone in the medical field, will be scared to go here and work due to the rotting labor system.
As far as hospitals go size does not matter, the quality of medical and non medical staff is the thing to look for.
Hope they provide something for the special needs kids...
that they also hire enough competent professionals to work in that large as it gets hospital! Not to mention have proper flow plans and directions marked clearly, lest patients and visitors have to spend 1/2day trying to find the relevant stations, wards and rooms!
Size is not a problem, quality what count. If they can't recruit enough qualified staff for HMC now, how can they do it for such a hospital?
You are forgetting Wakrah Hospital and Sidra...
Good for everyone..
An opportunity for my wife..
Sorry.. WC 2022.. My bad..
They have the money and they can do anything..
Dubai tried to become a medical hub, but didn't work out. Perhaps Qatar will initially aim for GCC and Arab countries..
Are you serious Brit? And what happens after the world cup? Is it gonna be dismantled too? Or do you think Qatar wants to compete with India and Thailand in medical tourism?
Brit...WC 2020? So the WC will be held two years early as planned?
that would mean new opportunitie in th medical profession
Makes sense. With all the heat stroke and drunks in WC 2020, such a facility will be needed..
