Qatar Airways Scam

By Minoush

So, I go to Qatar Airways to check out their 2 for 1 deal. I confirmed prices yesterday to see what the prices were before the sale. Today the ticket prices are half price-BUT they tack on an equivilent amount as a "surcharge". So the ticket is the exact same price. I call to complain and one representative said it was a "fuel charge" !!! Fuel charges in the States are like $25-$50, not $200!!!

When I told him this "fuel charge" was not in the price in yesterday's amount, he transfered me to the "Ecommerence help desk". They told me "oh, our computers are down, but those are taxes." What???

I'm not shocked at this scam, thought I may get a little better deal,(I never expected half) but I didn't expect to see such a blantent scam either.

I booked last minute to avail of that 2-for-1 "promo". I searched for flight Abu Dhabi to Manila, then return Manila - Abu Dhabi (AUH-MNL-AUH) for the promo period.

Qatar Airways Online booking says 2,225AED per person (but there's a note for *2 person for the promo). When I have entered the passengers names, and then directed to the payment page, the total is saying 4,450 AED. But again there's a note below saying ****Fare shown is 50% off the normal fare per adult.****

SO, we thought that 4,450 AED is subject to 50% OFF since 4,450 AED is already a REGULAR FARE or EVEN HIGHER for TWO PERSONS for AUH-MNL-AUH flights.

But when I check from my bank, my credit was charged with 4,450 AED!!! How could Qatar Airways explain it, that it's a PROMO when it is more expensive than the REGULAR FARE!!!

PLEASE CHECK SINGAPORE AIRLINES, ETIHAD AIRLINES, EMIRATES AND OTHER AIRLINES!!!

This SCHEME is NOT FAIR QATAR AIRWAYS!!!

YOU MAY HAVE ACQUIRED CLIENT/PASSENGERS THRU THIS MISLEADING KIND OF SCHEME, BUT YOU CAN NEVER FOOL EVERYBODY AND EVEN YOUR BUSINESS!!!

SO GOODLUCK!!!

I think that there is enough business in Qatar to support the launching of a budget airlines.

Surprisingly, AlJazeera Airlines stopped coming to Doha recently!!! Wonder why???

I received QA e-mail and was so excited. Started browsing the site, wasted some valuable time.

Really ridiculous; really classified as a scam and misleading.

The tax for London per person is 1400 QAR, for two person it will 2800 QAR and the ticket per person is 1320 QAR so for two it will be 2640 QAR

The total is 5440 QAR.

In normal days, say from 18 Apr 2011 to 26 Apr 2011 the total cost for two persons is 8080 QAR.

This brings us to a benifit of 37 % and not 50 %.

If this offer was Travel with half the price then it will be better.

Qatar has to open its airport to various airline companies so that we could have choices.

I was having a hard time last looking for a sea east asian carrier that flies from and to Doha before going to my home country.

I love the fact that they couldn't decide what the "surcharge" was for. It's fuel, no wait-it's taxes...

I checked a flight to Dubai, and the "surcharge" was higher than the ticket. 100% tax???

4990qr for 4 people to Dubai. 2900qr on FlyDubai.

.

from the published fares of the highest class and taxes not included ?

.

Real promos like the peninsula recently - you get your one year subscription of QR.675 and you can buy goods worth QR.700 with their coupons. (even if you discount a 20-25% from 700, you get a real value of 525+ Great considering the rest)

Yeah, this deal is back firing on Qatar Airways in a dramatic fashion and actually it IS indicative of a broader complacency in the company. I believe Mr Bakr to be a good Manager and strategist but I think perhaps in their/his endeavour to be global airline pioneer, they are overlooking the grass roots upon which their reputation has been made. The airline have clearly lost touch with the competitive nature of pricing and now find themselves far from being the "price savvy" operation that they have hithertoo been. I am a Privelidge card holder which ought to bring with it some benefits and on occasion it does but not often. Try to get a "free" flight as a result of an accumulation of air mies and you will see how difficult dealing with Qatar Airways has become. This 2 for 1 deal is again a lesson in how Qatar Airways endeavour to shroud everything they do in bureaucracy and red tape. It maybe all smiles and glistening teeth in the air from the girls, but actually getting in the air is taking a good deal more effort and Qatari Riyal that it has ever done previously. Its as well there isnt a 5 star rating for the overall service offered by Airlines as I fear Qatar Airways would fall short. It is now becoming more attractive in both service AND cost to hub your flight through Dubai or other than pay the inflated cost of a Qatar Airways direct flight.

from 27.05.2011 to 11.06.2011.

The total cost for the promotional fare for 4 adults is QR. 10880

The total cost for the Normal fare for 4 adults is QR. 13960

According to my calculations the promotional fare should be QR. 9780 not QR. 10880??

I repeat as per the Qatarairways website:

****Fare shown is 50% off the normal fare per adult.****

We are 2 adults and 2 children. If I buy normal tickets today. I will save only QR. 2090 from the promotion.

I booked flight for London from the promotional website of QA.

Once you get the promotion fare, beside the fare you will find a note:

"****Fare shown is 50% off the normal fare per adult.****"

When I checked the normal fare per adult from QatarAirways and other travel agencies (just to reconfirm the normal fare is the same)

Promotional fare is not 50% from the actual fare.

It is much higher and the difference is QR. 275 per ticket.

Also there is a catch. The child ticket will be calculated as per the adult, which I feel is unfair.

That is why I always prefer to travel thru Emirates Airlines :-)

The benifit is zero in my opinion because if I choose London and gues what, for two persons traveling the tax is 1400 QAR!!

The ticekt is 1320, so the total price should be theoretically 2720 QAR, but you will be surprised the total price shown on the site of Qatar airways is almost 5400 QAR.

My advice be very careful before booking because if you book there might be no refund.
