Press law at a suitable time

Qatar has so much press freedom, it has actually got too much, and this is what is making local journalism sick. New legislation will be enforced to protect journalists from this excess of freedom, the Minister for Censorship, Culture and Freedom, H E Dr Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al Kuwari, said yesterday.
In reply to a question from The Peninsula as to when the new press law was expected, he said: "Qatar has a Permanent Constitution which is the basis for all forms of freedom... The media here is so free and developed that we have actually passed that stage (where we actually need a law). However, it (the law) is in the offing and would be enforced at a suitable time." "I am sure that would be a comprehensive press law," Al Kuwari added.
