Pork sold as Beef !

Do you know what you are eating ??

Apparently someone has tried to make a silk purse from a sow's ear .... :O)

Several tonnes of pork tenderloin has been dyed and sold as beef tenderloin to Swedish grocery wholesalers, prompting Sweden's National Food Agency to issue an EU-wide warning.

The meat manipulation was discovered by wholesaler Svensk Cater after a shipment of what had been sold as beef from Argentina was returned by a customer who complained the meat was too moist, the Svenska Dagbladet (SvD) newspaper reported.

When the wholesaler ordered a new shipment from Swedish meat supplier Heat AB it received meat which was billed as beef from Hungary.

"I tried the product. Then I discovered it had been injected with a lot of a dye," Thomas Narving of Svensk Cater told newspaper.

The meat was then sent to the National Food Agency for testing which confirmed that the "beef" was in fact pork which had been injected with food colouring.

The agency subsequently issued an EU-wide warning about the meat in part because of concerns about the added dye, and in part because of health risks associated with undercooking pork in the belief that it is beef.

A representative for Heat AB told SvD that the company purchased the meat from Hungarian supplier Filetto in the belief that it really was beef.

"I've been duped," Heat AB's Åke Hultberg told the paper.

Now that's dirty pool! I'm sure quite a few consumers must be outraged, and not just Muslims and Jews. Just glad I don't eat beef anymore..better safe than sorry and all that.

UkEngQatar - I thought the sweedes loved this type of meat injected with all this fancy dyes and dressed to tickle the palette. No wonder it was being imported all the way from South america

Typhoon-2012 said Its fine ...

"Perhaps this happens in Sweden all the time. The guys are not known for being smart people. Todays its pork being sold as beef and tomorrow it might be dog meat being sold as mutton. Well as long as they enjoy the meal and are not really bothered about the minor things like mixing of colours, dye, etc it should be just fine or maybe the wine makes them forget what they are really eating"

Really since when are you an expert on the Swedish People the meat that was produced was not produced in Sweden, it was some rogue supermarket that did not check their supplier and sold it there, if yer don't know any nationality then I recommend that you keep your trap shut!

I suppose they were selling it off as some exotic meat from south america... and as long as it tastes fine and is okay for human consumption the other little things should not be a problem

There is only one way to know what you are eating: go hunting! If you delegate your responsibility you are going to be fooled, because that's what business is all about!
