Planes, Trains and Automobiles (1987)
Stars: Steve Martin, John Candy
Directed by John Hughes
Steve Martin is going on vacation for his Thanksgiving celebration with his family in the upcoming 3 days. He has to get from his New York workplace to Chicago. He's on a rush to get to the next reserved plane ride at 6PM. He can't properly get a taxicab. He found one but somebody stole his ride because he stumbled on a big box of luggage while running to the cab. He got into the airport at exactly 6PM but the flight was delayed. He sits in the lobby waiting and stumbles to the owner of the said big box of luggage: it's also the big guy (John Candy) who stole his cab ride. Chance fates (and somehow always in a bad luck) to always go alongside the big guy no matter where he goes...and soon found himself enjoying the company of him...in spite of plenty of hapless means of getting home.
This may probably be my first run of those John Hughes movies as my means of commemorating him (the director recently died about a month ago) and in this movie you'll feel the usual 80's comedy types with the likes of Ivan Reitman, John Landis, Harold Ramis, and such. I do remember having to grow up on some of John Hughes movies like Weird Science or Home Alone or even Ferris Bueller's Day Off, but this one gave me a sparking difference to his directing and writing skills, nevertheless makes him a rare versatile guy.
