Photography in Qatar

Loki
By Loki

Is anyone active in, or even just aware of, a photography group in Doha? I would be very interested in joining.

I have tried emailing QPS (Qatar Photographic Society) to find out about their activities - http://www.qpsimages.com/newweb/english/ - but didn't get a response... and their website has only been updated once in 9 months, so I am not sure how active they are (or alternatively, how much English-speaking content/focus they have).

Having taken it up not that long ago I am certainly not great, but I do enjoy photography. I can and do go out on my own but in Qatar - not wanting to offend anyone - I often find myself (particularly when alone) refraining from taking shots because I am self-conscious or am being extra careful not to seem to be photographing people.

Maybe I am being over sensitive? Hmmmm....

Anyway, any info would be welcome. :)

Cheers

Yes, I've been taking quite a lot of pictures. None of them are excellent though to be honest lol. I do it for fun!

I agree with Kumba about having an expert in the group.

Hello guys,

Did anything come of your idea to meet up? I just arrived in Qatar. I'm an experienced enthusiast with a few published pictures. I'd be VERY interested in joining a photography club here in Doha. Just something casual and would be more than happy to share experiences and technique's.

Anyway, I will stop here, in case this thread is dead an buried.

Hoping to hear from you soon!

I initially tried to put a group together some time back however due to work constraints etc I havent been able to follow this to fruition lately.

Now my time is becoming free again (fingers crossed) I would like to suggest as I did in the previous string (below) that we all do get together based on ideas for a weekly point and shoot. I did suggest architecture initially as there are so many opportunities both in and out of Doha (Corniche, Khalifa Stadium and tower etc), following that sport could be another one.

I am busy this weekend however the following weekend (6th/7th April) if everyone is up for it and still interested I suggest a meet based on a subject of someones choice, subject will dictate the location obviously!

Instead of continuing to post about wanting to do it....lets do it!!!

If anyone knows of any professionals please try to bring them along to teach us all something, as Im by no means a professional.

Also with Qataris help an area to display what we have taken would be greatly appreciated.

Guys and gals,

Two three days before I have posted in the 'Help Needed' category asking some help or advice for learning photography in Qatar! I have a great passion for it and let's gather together to do something better that we could develop a community here! which can practice, learn and enjoy the incredib;e photography profession! any thoughts?

lol...that's my job Loki, to plan, to prevent... and to think...

I have visited several IBM plants in the States. The most striking one is the one in Endicott N.Y., one of the first plants that goes back to 1935. One word is carved in stone in HUGE letters at the entrance, and that is: THINK, apparently is used to be IBM employees one word prayer in those days... alas !

Today, how many of us put our jaws into motion before putting our brain into gear. Even on this site(!) how many people jump to answer, before understanding the question... ;)

Have a super one!

I'm interested in joining too, when i get there, as a leisurely thing but not as a duty and weather permitting of course, i.e. in the winter months. I am not so sure about summer photography, with 45C temperatures? would your camera melt in the heat... ;)

I am moving to Doha in 2 weeks time and I am also interested in photography (I am also very much an amateur).

I would definitely be interested in taking part.

Easy - that sounds good - perhaps a "meet and shoot" type thing.... (ie pick a theme and get a group together...)

I'm interested in taking up photography seriously. I would be glad to join forces and perhaps form a photography club/group.

A friend of mine, does freelance photography for national geographics and Aljazeera channel has offered to coach me but we both have been very busy. He will be glad to join in as well.

Well, that's just the problem - I haven't taken very many yet!! Plus I prefer the doing over the showing - truthfully, I'm really crap... :)

Loki, why don't you upload some of your photographs to Qatar Living?

If you want, we can create a "Qatar Living Photo Group" where you can put photo's in, etc.
